We’ve entered a new era of horror in 2026. There’s been Obsession, Backrooms, and Leviticus. All were very different horror movies with unique concepts, a talented cast, and the word of mouth to get people watching. And up next is the horror movie Buddy. And it’s giving us Barney but in the most delightful and terrifying way.

Having premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, Buddy tells the story of a brave girl and her friends trying to escape a kids television show. Who are they running from? Oh the murderous humanoid unicorn at the center of said kids show. And even from the main image alone, where you see Buddy wrapped in bandages, covered in blood, and holding an axe, you know things are about to get twisted.
The cast of Buddy is also something to be excited about! Cristin Milioti from The Penguin plays Grace. Topher Grace from That 70’s Show plays Ben. Delaney Quinn from If I Had Legs I’d Kick You plays the heroic lead Freddy. And Keegan-Michael Key plays the voice of Buddy. Yes, the murderous humanoid unicorn of this children’s show is being played by the talented comedian with to many amazing credits that I can’t pick one.
So far we’ve gotten two teaser trailers and a poster. And even from these small teases, you can tell that the movie is leaning on tension first. The children and the unicorn can be confused for something like Barney, for sure. But Barney never had the kids looking so tense that if they did one wrong thing, their favorite dinosaur would snap. In Buddy, he not only looks like he’s about to snap, he looks like he already did…
