Now, Netflix is joining the trend by expanding its lineup of these kinds of shows with the announcement of Sid & Zoey, a series that mixes supernatural mystery, dark romance, and a very strange little town hiding more secrets than it probably should. What to Expect from Sid & Zoey
At its center, Netflix’s Sid & Zoey is exactly the kind of show that we love. It’s supernatural. It has romance. It’s gothic…and it’s weird. And, it’s not particularly interested in keeping those things separate.
The eight episode series follows Sid, a sophisticated, seductive, and decidedly amoral teenager from New York who finds himself sent away to live with a police chief and his family in the idyllic Mississippi town where his mother grew up.
Which, sure, sounds like a pretty big change of scenery.
The family includes Zoey, the police chief’s sharp-witted, punk-rock daughter. And while Sid and Zoey are determined to resist the attraction between them, that probably isn’t going to be particularly easy when the town itself starts revealing what it’s been hiding.
Because beneath that picture-perfect exterior is a much darker world.
Sid and Zoey become pulled into a hidden supernatural mystery lurking underneath the town, one that could get them hurt. There’s just one small problem: before they can worry about whatever supernatural threat is waiting for them, they may have to worry about hurt each other first.

Behind the scenes, Jon Kasdan will lead the creative team as creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer. John Shiban joins him as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Talking about that, the executive producer lineup also brings some pretty recognizable names into the mix. J.J. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich will executive produce for Bad Robot, while Jason Blum, James Wan, and Rob Hackett will executive produce for Blumhouse Atomic Monster—the studio behind the series.
Sid & Zoey already has plenty of ingredients for a very addictive YA genre series. And we’re always here for a show that looks at a perfect little town and immediately makes us wonder, okay, but what’s actually wrong with this place?
