It seems as though everyone is on the young adult train these days, and we’re not complaining about that. It’s an important medium for all streamers as of late.
It feels like it has been forever since we got the news that Kathryn Newton had been cast in Just One Day – the adaptation of Gayle Foreman’s, but it was just in April of 2025. At the time the project as in development at Prime Video.
At the time Gayle Foreman said, “The news is finally out! Just One Day is being developed as a series by @amazonmgmstudios and starring the incomparable @kathrynnewton!!!!”
She continued, “I’m so excited that Allyson and Willem’s stories—which I know have touched so many of you over the years—will have the room to be told with all the accidents and romance of the books. And Kathryn, who so GETS Allyson, is starring and co-producing (swipe through to see how cute she looks in a black bob). The writers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper are incredible. And Patrick Moran and Lynley Bird have shepherded this to life so thank them!”
The post ended with the quote, “We are born in just one day. We die in just one day. We can change in just one day. We can fall in love in just one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
The project did not move forward at Prime Video for reasons unknown, but the project is in development at Hulu.
The official synopsis of the book is as follows, “Allyson Healey’s life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.”
It continues, “A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know. The first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!”
Just One Day is the first book in the two book series, with the second book being titled Just One Year.
