Are you ready to return to Port Wenn? The quirky Maine town and its grumpy doctor are coming back for season 2 of Best Medicine! Martin Best (Josh Charles) had to leave his surgical career when he developed a blood phobia, so he came to the place where he spent summers with his Aunt Sarah (Annie Potts). He brought his terrible bedside manner with him! But being Port Wenn’s general practitioner turned out to be exactly what Martin needed, even if he doesn’t fully accept it yet. Here’s everything we know about Best Medicine Season 2!

When and Where to Watch
Best Medicine Season 2 will premiere Tuesday, September 22 at 8 pm on FOX. The season will have 14 episodes, and each one will stream the next day on Hulu.

The Cast
Aside from Charles and Potts, the entire main cast will be back for season two. That includes Abigail Spencer as Louisa, the local schoolteacher and Martin’s love interest. Also back are Josh Segarra as Sheriff Mark and Cree as Martin’s assistant, Elaine. Also, Jason Veasey and George Spinella, who play George and Greg, the couple who own The Salty Breeze restaurant, have been upgraded to series regulars! There’s also other good casting news for this show. The legendary Andrea Martin will guest star during season 2! She will play Judith, a friend of Sarah’s. We are definitely looking forward to that!
There is also casting news we’re less enthusiastic about. Martin’s ex, Eden (Eliza Coupe), who he reconciled with in the season 1 finale, is back. That means Martin and Louisa’s slow burn isn’t getting any faster. Especially because Louisa is also getting another romantic interest this season, Parker, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott. (Sigh.)

The Plot
This show is an American version of the British show Doc Martin. As such, viewers can expect more of Martin solving medical mysteries and more of Port Wenn’s offbeat residents. A couple of storylines unresolved from season 1 will continue, of course. Martin will have to deal with the Maine Medical Board now that bully Glendon (Patch Darragh) reported him for letting Elaine draw blood without a license. (Still skeptical if that’a thing.)
Plus, the writers have to deal with Martin and Louisa’s relationship. They may still be in the “won’t they” part of their back and forth, but this plot was strong in season one so we’re anticipating it the most. Part of the reason Port Wenn is so good for Martin is Louisa. Their storyline has to progress.
Connected to that, Louisa’s quest to have a baby is important, too. When Martin overheard Louisa’s ex, Mark, offer to have a baby with her, he misunderstood. That’s what prompted him to call Eden. This situation is layered and has the potential to be good angst for the Martin/Louisa ship. Charles and Spencer are such appealing performers, with such good chemistry, we can’t wait to see how this storyline will unfold.
The Trailer
For a glimpse of the first actual footage from season two, check out the trailer. When Sarah insists that Martin “is Port Wenn through-and-through, whether he knows it or not,” we cheered! Watch it below!
