Today is a good day. Why? Because one of our favorite series is moving forward and that makes us excited. American Royals is being turned into a television series for Netflix.
Time to dust off the books and reread the series that kept us invested from beginning to the end. From the first page to the last we had a lot of feelings. Netflix won the bidding in an intense war for American Royals, a drama inspired by Katharine McGee’s bestselling Alloy Entertainment young adult book series,
What if George Washington had said yes to a crown? In American Royals, he’s anointed king of the United States instead of being elected president, and the story follows his glamorous, messy young descendants as they grow up under the spotlight of the monarchy. As any YA fan hopes, the romance is front and center: two princesses are locked in a fierce battle for the ultimate crown, while two girls compete for the prince’s heart, and every stolen glance, whispered secret, and royal obligation raises the stakes. It’s Founding Fathers meets palace drama, and I am completely, wildly obsessed.
Ted Malawer, the co-writer of the Red, White & Royal Blue movie, is writing the series, so we’re already in very good romance-adaptation hands. He’s also an executive producer alongside Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein, and the project is being developed with Alloy Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. It’s still early days, and there’s no casting news yet, which means we get to dream-cast our princesses, our prince, and the girls fighting for his heart until an announcement arrives.
American Royals series spans four books, American Royals (2019), Majesty (2020), Rivals (2022) and Reign (2023), as well as prequel novella Inheritance (2022).
Have you read the series? What do you think? Love it? Hate it?
