When it comes to book to movie adaptations, we do consider ourselves to be experts. Well semi-experts. We’ve been around long enough to know that we can’t expect things to not change, that a good writer will fill the plot holes, and that the movie will be good as long as it maintains the essence of what the book is.
The Guest by Emma Cline is rumored to be bought to by A24 and Square Peg with Sadie Sink rumored as the lead. Lorene Scafaria is in talks to write and direct a feature film. We knows Scasfaria directed Hustlers and that is definitely one good movie.
The Guest was published in 2024, and was chosen as one of the best books of the year from the New Yorker, Time, NPR, Washington Post, Financial Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, Glamour, Newsweek, Good Housekeeping and more. It was also long listed for the Pen/Faulkner Award.
In the book, “Summer is coming to a close on the East End of Long Island, and Alex is no longer welcome. A misstep at a dinner party, and the older man she’s been staying with dismisses her with a ride to the train station and a ticket back to the city.”
The book synopsis continues, “With few resources and a waterlogged phone, but gifted with an ability to navigate the desires of others, Alex stays on Long Island and drifts like a ghost through the hedged lanes, gated driveways, and sun-blasted dunes of a rarified world that is, at first, closed to her. Propelled by desperation and a mutable sense of morality, she spends the week leading up to Labor Day moving from one place to the next, a cipher leaving destruction in her wake.”
We’re off to pick up a copy of the book, as it sounds great and we’re always wanting to watch Sink take on any role. She is immensely talented.
