Small town events are a lot of fun. Tradition has its place in this world and is there a lot of it in small towns. For Silver Falls it is the Silver Falls Sparkle – a carnival type event that honors the town and the people in it. Only in My Life With The Walter Boys season 2, episode 10, we’re learning that tradition is one thing, but changing for a future is another. Change isn’t always a bad thing, but in change you need to be prepared for secrets to come out and goals to change.
While I wasn’t sure what to expect with the last episode of the season because so much was changing leading up to this episode and somethings may have been overlooked as we got to this season finale. But trust me when I say this – so many things start to replay in my mind.
And so many regrets that some characters may have for a long time to come.
But we’re going to have to guess on what that is, because there were a lot of things left open that we need more information about.
But traditions have a way of changing and evolving. Eyes open, time goes on, and feelings change or find their way to the surface.

THE BIG GAME
Small town high school football games are an institution. The team is playing Aruelita again, and the need to be on top of their game.
Dylan announced that he wasn’t going to play. I love that after a talk with Kiley he realizes that he needs to take responsibilities for his actions. He needs to be his own person.
Kiley is a voice of reason and even though I don’t really like these two together, I am seeing that she is happy. Her being seen by him is something that she really does love and it does matter to her.
But the privilege of having a father that will bail you out of your troubles – well that is something that she doesn’t get. The choice to have him sit out was something I admired, because it made the rest of the team rise to the occasion.
Cole is left in charge of coaching and the first half – he’s doing a really bad job. It was his talk with Dylan that made him focus. Cole may not be on the field like he wants to be, but he can make a huge difference.
And he does. The team comes back and wins the game.
It’s endearing to see all of the characters in the show rising to the occasion and really figure out that they can do anything. It’s good for Cole to see that he can do anything that he sets his mind to.

THE SPONSORSHIPS
Alex has been working hard to be the best bronc rider that he can be. I have grown to like Alex more – but he needs a hat that fits. Lets set that aside though and think about what this audition means.
Alex needs sponsorships? Or does he want them? I think that we can all be proud of what he’s learned and what he is going to do with his life. This audition with Blakes father will change his life, but it also means that Blake feels like she can say anything about his life.
She tells him that life on the road is hard and that maintaining relationships isn’t easy. Alex is dedicated and determined to be the best at everything, but when Blake brings up that she know about him and Jackie, it is that he feels the need to defend.
While I am glad for Alex that he is doing well in all his endeavors, but I also think that he’s not being realistic. He loves Jackie, yes. But he’s evolving and growing as any person does.
His sponsorship is going to keep him really busy this year. But his love for Jackie, he thinks is solid. For me, it’s hard to see Blake ask him why it is a secret that him and Jackie being together is a secret.
Alex is easily influenced and he’s really got to stand on his own. Focus on his dreams. But, I also don’t believe that Alex is over the past – so focusing on his future seems like the one thing he really needs to do.

SHE PASSED
Jackie is worried about her driving test. After failing the first time, she wants nothing more than to drive. She wants to be able to help the Walters with driving, but I also think that it gives her a sense of independence.
What I think was so important was that Katherine went with her and encouraged her. Katherine doesn’t want to replace Jackies mom, but she wants to be honor her. I think sometimes we forget that Katherine lost her best friend and that she has to put aside her grief for her kids and Jackie. Seeing Jackie succeed is a blessing. It feels like she could do something for her best friend.
I admit I cried when Richard and Katherine had thought ahead and had Jackies Moms car shipped out. As Jackie celebrates her license, she has her Moms spirit around her.
Independence means the first stop is going to see her bestie.
Grace is honestly of the strongest people in this show, because she is always supporting those around her, but we really don’t ever hear what is going on with her. You can see that she’s struggling but trying to remain strong. When Jackie asks her what is wrong, she tells her that she’s not okay. Her Mom and Dad split up.

SEE THE WORLD AROUND HER
What is absolutely something that needed to happen – Jackie needed to see the world around her and that other people have things going on. Jackie is allowed to grieve and wonder how to fit in and miss things – but she also needs to make space for those around her.
I was thankful that she had to experience that feeling of letting friends down and needing to pull herself together.
Skylar and Jackie both realize that they haven’t been as good of friends to Grace as she is to them. They both need to make amends and stop taking her for granted. Life is hard and being a teenager is hard. Grace just needs her friends to show up.
And Jackie says that she will.
Sometimes it is hard to realize that the world around us keeps going. We need to take moments to breathe and realize that other people hurt too. We need to be pulled out of ourselves and see that people around us need us.

SECRETS COME TO LIGHT
The Walter kids all in the same room – haven’t seen that in awhile. After the Sparkle, the kids are all in the living room, hanging out. Jordan seems to have softened to Jackie, offering her a seat right by him.
Piper is excited that Jackie has her license. Jackie is happy until she finds out that Cole lied to her. He did get his SAT scores – getting a 1250. Jackie is frustrated that he lied to her – so she follows him as he storms out.
Cole and Jackie’s relationship is strange but in the best way. Cole is trying to give Jackie what she wanted – space. But when he saw her with Alex – everything that was inside of him second guessed everything that he’s ever done. Jackie asked for honesty and boy did she get it.
He told her that he loves her. He told her that he has been wracking his brain to try to figure out why she could be with Alex and not with him. The pain that he feels – the indecision and insecurity – it radiated from every pour in his body.
He loves Jackie.
She admitted that she loves him – but that it’s not that easy. The one time that they kissed, she was able to forget everything and just be in the moment. Jackie doesn’t want to loose control, but she can’t stay away from him. The passion and the pain – these two – it is everything.
I wanted him to kiss her, but it all comes to an end in a second when we hear Alex say, “You love him?”
Somewhere, somehow they all need to remember what their feelings are and really examine them.
Though Alex has grown on me, I still want Jackie to be with Cole.
But this love triangle and what happens next isn’t the only cliffhanger. Will comes zooming in on the ATV, an ambulance following. He’d gone to look for George and found him – but something is wrong.
What ever is happening next, I can’t wait to see. All I know is season 3 can’t set her fast enough.
