Yes, you’ve seen the videos of the panel. The cast of Once Upon A Time was as delightful as ever, Yvette Nicole Brown fangirled for all of us and the good questions were asked.
But being there was a completely different experience. From the atmosphere, the cosplayers and experiencing the sneak peeks live to literally just running into the cast while you’re trying to go from one press room to the other, there’s a lot to be said for actually attending San Diego Comic Con. If you can, do it. And, if you can’t, and you love Once Upon A Time, well, I’m here to tell you the little things you might not have noticed from your favorite actors.
So, here’s what you didn’t see from the Once Upon A Time Cast at San Diego Comic Con:
These people really, really like each other
We can’t even single out just a few of them, because the whole cast seemed to be having a blast, and they went from having private conversations in little groups, to mixing up with the rest of the cast like it was nothing. One second Colin and Josh were hanging out, then Josh and Lana, and even Jennifer and Emilie. Not to mention the fact that everyone seemed to be checking up on Jared.
You might have heard that these people get along – and I’d have to concur. More than that, I’d say these people are friends. And that just makes us love them even more!

Rebecca Mader is hilarious. Also, everyone’s in love with her accent
We laughed. She laughed. The rest of the cast laughed. Every time Rebecca Mader opened her mouth, something funny came out. We’re not even sure if she did it on purpose or if she’s just that good. All we know is, we’d sign up for a solid hour of listening to her. Especially because that accent …that accent is just enchanting!
Captain Charming might not have gotten that much screen time yet, but O’Dallas is alive and well. Also, Josh Dallas looks like a proud father every time Captain Swan is mentioned. And he likes giving Colin a hard time.
The whole cast seems close, but the O’Dallas bromance seemed to be in full swing during San Diego Comic Con, from the two of them doing press lines and roundtables together, to hanging out outside the press room for a good ten minutes after it was all done and joking around every time someone mentioned Captain Swan and how that could technically mean Josh will, one day, potentially, be Colin’s father-in-law.
Josh, in particular, seemed to really enjoy shoving playfully Colin and laughing every time Captain Swan was mentioned. That’s not to say he looked like he didn’t approve, oh no. Josh is all in with the Captain Swan. He probably just want sto make sure Hook will ask Charming for Emma’s hand in marriage before popping the question. They’re both old-fashioned guys, after all.
Jennifer Morrison was one of the most comfortable-looking actresses on hand at SDCC
She wore a long dress and mostly-flat, comfortable shoes for the majority of her commitments, and her hair up and braided in what’s become kind of a staple for her. Of course, we’re not saying the other actresses can’t dress the way they want to – of course they can, but Jennifer’s look did make her look approachable and very down-to-earth. Which, to be honest, is our favorite look of them all.
Both Lana Parrilla and Jennifer Morrison dote on Jared Gilmore
It’s like the kid has three mothers, and two of them work on the show. Lana got to do roundtable interviews with him, and it was clear to the eye that they’re very, very close. Jennifer wasn’t in the press room, but that didn’t mean that she wasn’t looking over Jared every instance that she could. In a way, they all were, but especially his on-screen mothers. Lucky Jared!
Emilie de Ravin understands Belle better than you think
Many people have had issues with Belle in the past, especially considering the fact that she’s remained at Rumple’s side despite his, ahem, less than honorable tendencies, but Emilie’s answers, both at the panel and the press room show that she seems to have a better grasp on her character than most people give her credit for. And, if she’s to be believed, Belle is not the victim we’ve been portraying her as – she’s just a woman who might not be as sweet and innocent as we think.
Colin O’Donoghue’s hair looks just as good in real life as it does on TV
This should be downright impossible, since they have stylists on set. But, the man was just blessed with good genes, it seems, because even after the panel, signings here and there and a press room, he still looked like he’d spent way too much time making sure his hair was perfect. Except he didn’t. That’s just how it normally looks. And that just makes it even better. Or worse, depending on who you are.
Lana Parrilla and Rebecca Madder gave everyone pause with their outfits. Even other actors.
Everyone looked phenomenal, but Lana’s red leather dress and Rebecca’s skin-tight leopard one were the hit of the convention. People actually stopped to stare at them, not just during the Panel, but later, during press rooms. And though Lana seemed to be content with owning it, Rebecca played funny lady every time someone mentioned how great she looked, striking a pose or just blowing a kiss.
Also worth mentioning – both were very sweet and nothing like their on-screen counterparts.
Captain Swan lives because of the great chemistry between O’Donoghue and Morrison – and their friendship
It’s easy to fall in love with Captain Swan and part of the reason why is O’Donoghue and Morrison just get along. There’s banter, there are easy smiles, and there’s the understanding of what their fictional relationship means to a lot of people, and in response to that, a certain sense of wonder and reverence every time they talk about it that just makes people ship them more. Captain Swan is OTP goals on our TV screen, and that’s all because the actors who play them get along so wonderfully off it.
Once Upon A Time returns to ABC on Sunday, September 25th at 8/7c.
