I would never be able to imagine The Avengers without Mark Ruffalo. He’s just perfection, and balances out the cast.
I don’t understand why he was hesitant to join the Marvel Universe, because now I would never be able to imagine anyone else as The Hulk. But Ruffalo admitted that he was hesitant to take on the role and Robert Downey Jr. convinced him.
“I didn’t know what I could add to what I already thought had been done so well before me.” he said when appearing on The Tonight Show.
Up until that point, Ruffalo had really done a lot of indie movies. I can understand why he would be hesitant and ask if he’s truly right for the role. Hey, we’re understanding of someone second-guessing business decisions.
But Edward Norton (who played The Hulk prior to him) was never The Hulk to me. When Ruffalo took on the role, it just felt perfect.
“Then I got a call from Downey, it must’ve made it to him that I was hemming and hawing, and he just simply said, ‘Ruffalo, let’s go. We got this.’ In true Iron Man fashion. And then after that, I was like, ‘I guess I have to do it.’”
We’re glad that he did take on the role.
