Wynonna Earp’s “Holy War Part One” saw the Clantons trying and succeeding in stirring up trouble for our Earper family and we ain’t here for this shit. Good thing Wynonna is on the case because you can always depend on her to have your back, even when that back is arched and puking frogs in a bucket. So what if the gun hasn’t presented itself to Wynonna. She has everything she could ever need.
On the Wayhaught front, we got plenty of cute moments and a near death experience. Praise the Lord that Waverly is ok and just had a tiny bit of smoke inhalation. But Nicole…well, that’s a whole other problem, especially with Jeremy and Nedley following Nicole’s wishes and drowning her. That’s not gonna go over well in Part Two…
Until then, read on for our Wynonna Earp review of “Holy War Part One”!
The Good – Watching Wynonna Rise

From “On the Road Again” to “Holy War Part One” we’ve seen a different kind of Wynonna Earp. This time around she doesn’t have the Earp Peacemaker to take down all the baddies in her life. And like in “Afraid” she’s been on the edge all season long, trying to find the courage inside of herself to do what must be done.
And there was something about this episode that cemented the fact in my mind and everyone who loves Wynonna….THAT SHE DOESN’T NEED PEACEMAKER! Would it make things easier? In a heartbeat. But can she do it without her gun? YES SHE CAN! And it’s not because there are other weapons around like the handy gun she keeps under her pillow.
Wynonna can do anything that she sets her mind to because she’s not alone. She has Waverly, her sister from another mister who lights up her life and gives her the love no one else can. She has Nicole, her best friend and fighter in arms. She has Doc, her baby daddy, friend, and companion. And she has Alice, the whole reason why she’s trying to fix up her life and of those she loves.
I could see her realizing all of this in “Holy War Part One.” Sure, Peacemaker rejecting her has to burn a little. But when push comes to shove, Wynonna will do everything and anything she can to protect her loved ones, this town, and everyone in it. Because yeah, she might not technically be the Earp heir anymore, but she’s the best damn demon killer this town has ever seen!
So, watch out Clantons. Watch out Eve, wherever the hell you are. Wynonna has this and you stand no chance. You just don’t know it yet.
The Bad – Not Knowing What Happened to….Well, Everyone

What happened to Kate? Where is she? Is she ok? Where is Robin? Why does Jeremy keep saying that he’s safe? I have questions and I really would like if people answered them. That’s my only gripe with season 4 of Wynonna Earp. And in the grand scheme of things, that isn’t a huge complaint. Like, I understand that things take time but…I WANT IT NOW!
*calming breath in*
*calming breath out*
Wherever they are, I pray to God and her glory that our favs are doing ok and not being corralled by Eve into something dark, mysterious, and messy AF. Cuz you know that is coming back to bite them in the ass. It has to and I personally can’t wait for it all. But answers, I need them, I’m waiting, and I pray that we aren’t left with a crazy cliffhanger that will leave us chomping at the bit for more…
The Ugly – Everything Happening with Nicole

A part of me wants to be angry with Jeremy. I’ll start with that. He took part in KILLING Nicole to cure her of whatever affliction was plaguing her. Then there’s the rational side of me that knows her death is only temporary and a sigh of relief washes over me. Because what Nicole did, it had to be done. They wouldn’t make any progress if they didn’t.
Still don’t believe me? Look back on this episode. Nicole lit the Homestead on fire, almost killing Waverly in her sleep. Also, Nicole attacked Wynonna and if it wasn’t for Wynonna’s fast reflexes we would have a shish kabobed Earp heir. Then there’s the puking of the frogs. Hermione isn’t around to fix everything with a spell or potion. And even when Jeremy tried, evil Nicole came out and tossed it.
Killing Nicole was the only way to rid her of whatever the Clantons have on her. Does it still hurt? Absolutely. Was I broken-hearted when I saw Waverly standing there all frozen-like as her love died? ABSO-freaking-LUTELY! But it’s like a good fanfiction where “temporary character death” is listed under the tags on AO3. Everything will be alright.
It has to be.
