Supernatural‘s “Gimme Shelter” was a reminder that just because Cas and Jack are not family by blood, doesn’t mean they aren’t family in the first place. Foudn family counts just as much and we’re proud to call them honorary Winchesters. It was also a reminder that the end is coming and anyone can die. I’m not just talking about Jack either. Cas, Dean, or Sam could give up their lives for Jack or for the others. We’ve seen it before and I hope we don’t see it again. *crosses fingers*
Jack Kline Acting Like a Winchester
Can I just say that I’ve never been prouder of Jack? Seriously, our son is one of the brightest spots on Supernatural and I can’t imagine our world without him. He’s such a kind, talented, and worthwhile character to get to know and love. And I enjoy every second he shows to us how much of a Winchester he truly is.
Going on a case with Castiel feels like a right of passage, especially if you have a cool undercover name. Sure, Jack made some mistakes. For one he didn’t know how to hold his badge, just like Castiel when he first started on cases with the Winchesters. And he approached a church goer while proclaiming his interest in the “Kool Aid.” But he’s learning and trying. That’s all that matters.
Also, can we talk about the scene where he was sitting in the trunk while Cas was trying to summon a crossroads demon? Jack was absolutely adorable! He was following the method taught to him by Sam. And he had to ask for his guardians permission to sign up for a social media website. So we’ve got a smart, kind, and considerate young man here. And that makes me worry even more.
Jack deserves to live. He deserves to live his life by the Winchesters side and not alone because they sacrificed their lives for him or he for them. He deserves to live a life where he discovers what kind of young man he is and what possibilities could become part of his life. And he deserves to live in spite of those who thought of him as a monster and didn’t give him a chance to show how wonderful he truly is.
He deserves it all.
Castiel and His Purpose
Look, Supernatural‘s “Gimme Shelter” was going for my feels left and right. First Jack being the absolute goober that he is while using everything his dads have taught him. Now Castiel talking about finding his purpose with the Winchesters and having a son. *sob* Someone needs to sedate me now because I’m not ok and I don’t think I ever will be.
Castiel has been lost for a while. Sure, he’s got the Winchesters. But he’s missed a grounding force in his life; a light to keep him tethered in the madness that is their lives. And I think he found hope in his family with Sam and Dean. But I think he found his reason for living in caring, nurturing, and being a guiding force in Jack’s life.
Which only makes me think of one thing: Castiel giving it all up for his family. And yes, the Winchesters (including the honorary ones) have given their lives for each other time and time again. But this is different. This is God they’re going after. There’s coming from this. And wouldn’t it be crazy if this is what Cas was meant to do from the start, since the moment he met Sam and Dean as a devote believer in God, for the people he loves…*starts sobbing all over again*
This could be his purpose.
Dean and His Anger
Look, Dean is a lot of things. He’s a warrior. H’es a brother. He’s a father. What I never thought he could be is a man I’m scared of. Seriously, what the hell was that at the diner with Amara. Shivers down my spine worthy. Dean’s anger, I’ve never seen it so concentrated towards one person. And I know it’s because they were talking about Mary, but hot damn. He was scary and Jensen Ackles killed it!
With the show about to end, I thought I’d seen it all when it came to this character, this actor. “Gimme Shelter” was proof that Dean contains multitudes that we haven’t seen and hopefully will see as the show wraps up. It was also proof that Ackles is just at the start of his acting career. He’s got plenty of time to explore, grow, and change. And we’re here for it.
Now I’m rethinking my decision to not watch The Boys. Maybe I will, especially if he’s joining the cast!
Supernatural airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
