Apple TV+’s Servant is the creepy show you need to check out before the season 2 premiere happens on January 15, 2021. With new episodes being delivered each Friday, it tells the story of a couple who has lost their child and the nanny who comes into their lives during this time of pain and heartache. But why would they need a nanny, you wonder? Because the couple can’t let go of their past, particularly the mother, and a fake baby is the perfect substitute until they’re able to face that pain.
So, without further ado, here are 5 reasons why you should be watching Apple TV+’s Servant!
1. That creepy baby
As someone who lives with someone who has a reborn baby…I’m a little freaked out by Jericho. Correction, I’m a lot freaked out by Jericho. His dead stare matched, matted hair, and floppy nature of his body are creeptastic and something I never want to experience. And just thought of everyone carrying that thing around…it sends shivers down my spine! *closes door to mothers room while keeping an eye out for Elijah* (Yes, it has a name.)
2. Ronald Weasley
Rupert Grint playing a recurring character on Servant is kind of a delight. It does take you a bit to get past his American accent, which isn’t that bad, if we’re being honest. But it does take a hot second to get used to him because in comparison to his Harry Potter co-stars, Rupert hasn’t been doing the same caliber stuff. Maybe this is his REAL start, his beginning, of something new and exciting that will set his career on fire. In a good way, of course.
3. The home it’s all set in
Most of the filming of Servant is done inside the Turner home in Philadelphia, PA. This makes it so you feel a little trapped by the walls surrounding our characters. For we only see them for who they are in the comfort of their own home and not out there in the big and scary world. Everything happening at home also makes for a more intimate experience where the house becomes a character in it’s own right, making Servant even spookier.
4. The real despair of losing a child
At the heart of this story is a tale of pain, loss, and despair. A family has lost their child and are barely hanging on by a thread as it is when the nanny enters the picture. Her arrival allows us to gain a true understanding of Dorothy and Sean Turners pain at losing their child at such a young age. The loss also shows us how people deal with pain and the lies we tell ourselves to
5. Leanne the nanny
It takes a special kind of actress to take on the role of Leanne the nanny. Frankly, she’s creepy AF, no matter what scene she’s in. But there’s something about her, this innocence, that makes you question yourself before questioning her and what she’s doing. And that right there is because of the amazing acting done by Nell Tiger Free. She manages to bring to life a character you are afraid of but want to know more about.
Servant season 2 will be premiering on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 15, 2021.
