Was I the only one watching Cobra Kai 3×09 “Feel The Night” and thinking: Don’t you do it, Johnny. Don’t you ruin everything. Please, don’t you do it? Because I feel we were all thinking it, and were kinda proud for the fact that he hasn’t managed to fuck everything up. At least not yet. There’s always the season 3 finale.
The truth is, I was happy to see Ali Mills again. Not just because I’m always happy to see Elisabeth Shue, but because I enjoyed Ali in the original Karate Kid movies, and though I don’t really, at this point in time, ship her with either of the men in Cobra Kai, it did feel like Johnny, in particular, could use a little of the closure only she could provide.
Plus, there was the whole being there just after Johnny took his relationship with Carmen to another level, and you know, the chance for him to mess it all up, to act our of fear, to let his worst instincts take over.
Which he didn’t. For now.
I guess we all gotta learn from our mistakes, and I’m really glad that’s a thing, because this is season 3. I don’t even mind the moony eyes, or the fact that Johnny is sitting there clearly thinking: What if I tried for another chance with Ali? I mind the things he does, not the ones he thinks about doing.
But there’s also a part of me that recognizes Ali isn’t just there for Johnny. Not that Daniel needs her to do much more than remind him that in this fight against Kreese the only way they’re gonna win is together. You know what they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
No, that isn’t right. Above all of that, it’s just finally time for Daniel and Johnny to be friends. I would have taken it a year ago, and I certainly think at this point, we’re over due.
Look, if Sam and Miguel could get over their issues – though honestly, their issues were all lack of communication and being young and dumb – then Johnny and Daniel not only can, they should.
At this point it isn’t only about them. They both know the kind of man Kreese is, and they both know the kind of damage he can do if left unchecked. They also know they are truly the only ones who can even attempt to do some of that checking.
Time to slay the monster, together.
Please?
Cobra Kai season 3 is available to stream on Netflix.
