I feel like once you know someone’s there for you, and once you know they love you, you never actually think of them again. It’s not until you’re about to lose someone, that you finally pay attention.

Those are the words that Marie (Zendaya) says to her boyfriend Malcolm (John David Washington) in the trailer for the new Netflix film ‘Malcolm & Marie’
When filmmaker Malcolm (Washington) and his girlfriend Marie (Zendaya), return home from a movie premiere and await his film’s critical response, the evening takes a turn as revelations about their relationship surface, testing the couple’s love.
The film written and directed by Sam Levinson, the man behind the amazingly provocative series Euphoria which also stars Zendaya, has created a film that is not a love story. Like the trailer says, it is “the story of love.” There are tons of love stories out there but we don’t see too many stories that show what it looks like to face each other head on and fight for that love.
Take a look at the trailer below.
The trailer is beautiful and already has us ready to fight for Malcolm & Marie’s relationship too.

One thing that makes this film so unique is that it was shot during the early days of quarantine. We know that was no easy task and if you want to read about how this was accomplished, check out this New York Post article. It’s actually pretty interesting and explains how COVID precautions were carried out to keep the actors safe.
Malcolm & Marie is already starting to generate conversations of being an Oscar-worthy film for Zendaya and John David Washington. These two are immensely talented and based on this trailer, we’re already feeling the same.
