Netflix finally did what we’ve been expecting them to do since Bridgerton premiered – they renewed it for a second season! While we were secretly hoping for a sweeping seven more seasons, we’ll take what we get right now.
Last year was terrible, and Bridgerton was one of the bright spots in it. Once the season was over, we immediately wanted more. We have a love for this show that won’t quit and we are delighted to be getting more of it. We just wish we could fast forward time!
With the renewal announcement comes the news that they will start filming in Spring of 2021 – which is only a few months away! While we don’t have a date on the final product yet, at least we can look forward to the cast posting stuff on their social media while filming. FYI – if you aren’t following Penelope Featherington, a.k.a. Nicola Coughlan on Twitter, fix it immediately.
We also know that the series will focus on book two of the Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me. In other words, this will be Anthony’s story.
It was confirmed that new faces will be joining the cast and we can assume that one of these new faces will be our new fave, Kate Sheffield. We absolutely cannot wait to see Anthony fall head over heels for her.
We’ve talked extensively about what we want to see from each character in season two, but with this announcement comes some burning questions:
Will We See Simon and Daphne?

Look, if Simon’s gone, we riot. With the second season focusing on another couple’s happily ever after – will we see much of Daphne and Simon? This begs the question for all these characters when we get even more seasons (and you know we will). Will they bring back the actors for their scenes that are mentioned in the books, or will they be cut?
We have a strong need for Regé-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings in our lives. It’s fair to say that we burn for him. And just because his story got its happily ever after, it doesn’t mean we want him out of sight and out of mind. We want to see him and Daphne enjoying their lives and finding amusement when each of her siblings become idiots in love. It will be interesting to see how they work these characters into future seasons.
What’s Next?

Season one did a good job of giving us hints of the character’s future stories without spoiling it all together. This will probably continue in Bridgerton season two, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will Colin even be in the season since he is off on his travels? Will we see Francesca meet and fall in love with her first husband (and also meet his very handsome cousin)? We really need to see more of her this season.
Eloise’s first season out in society will probably be a big storyline next season. If she was so opposed to how things were even before she was on the marriage mart — she’s going to be so over it once she starts getting those callers at her door. And how will they move Benedict’s plotline forward? Will he continue to explore his love for art? Is there any drama ahead for him before his season?
And what about Marina? Those who have read the books know that her fate does not look good. But will we get a glimpse of her new life with her husband? Or is her character out of sight, out of mind, as well? But Marina’s new husband is tied to Eloise’s story, which is several seasons away. It would behoove the showrunners to include a brief mention. They may be far out of mind by season five if they don’t.
The Featheringtons have a lot of recovery to do after the loss of the patriarch. The added mystery of who is inheriting the title. We wonder if the reason why they decided to reveal the identity of Lady Whistledown in season one is so that they can show how the Featheringtons suddenly come into money again in season two. While we still side eye the decision, storywise it makes sense. Regardless, we demand more Penelope Featherington scenes, however we can get them.
Who Will Play Kate?

Okay, please tell us that we were not alone in scouring every single ball scene in season one in hopes that we might catch a glimpse of any girl that might possibly be Kate? We watched it until our eyes were hurting. But alas, no Kates to be found. We cannot wait for the casting announcement for her character. One thing for sure is we can’t wait to see her go head to head with Anthony.
For those unfamiliar with the books, Anthony has decided to marry so he picks Edwina Sheffield, a lovely lady debuting in the next society season (when his sister Eloise will also debut). However, he must first get past her older half-sister Kate and she does not approve of him one bit. It’s the enemies-to-lovers trope in it’s finest and we are here for it. We got enough scenes of Anthony and Siena having sex in season one, which means we have definitely earned some intimate moments between him and Kate. We would not be opposed to more Anthony booty sightings either, we’re just saying.
Those who did not read the books will finally get to see why the bee is so important to the story and why it was teased so much in season one. And we will get more history on the Bridgerton family and why Anthony was absolutely over the top in his sense of responsibility.
We love the Bridgertons and cannot wait until Bridgerton season two. But we must. In the meantime, we will re-read the books, binge the show looking for more easter eggs, and be each other’s emotional support. We are all in this wait together.
Bridgerton Season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
