Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves and in the past few weeks we have seen that Meghan Markle has chosen some amazing friends. The way that they have all rallied around her and been there for her, I admire all of their friendships.
Serena Williams spoke out about her friend after the bombshell interview that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had with Oprah.
“Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what is means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced,” Williams started her social media post.
“I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and media use to vilify women and people of color to minimize us, to break us down and demonize us,” she wrote. “We must recognize our obligation to decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating and all too often lethal.” she also. said.
“I am so proud of you for being so brave. I know it is never easy,” she wrote in the caption of her post. “You are strong—both you and Harry. I love you. I adore you. Your friend S.” she finished off the lengthy post.
That’s the definition of friendship – being there when they need you. I am thankful that Serena wrote about her friend and hopefully, we all take a second to stop and think about the way we act and treat people.
