You probably don’t know enough about Amita Suman yet, but we have absolutely no doubt that next month, after you all finally get to experience the Netflix Shadow and Bone adaptation, you will fall as in love with Amita as we here at Fangirlish have. And as we prepare to kick off our intense (we do know how to fangirl) coverage of Shadow and Bone, we wanted to start off with a look at the actors who are bringing our favorite characters to life.
I have the pleasure of introducing you to Amita Suman today, who plays our beloved Wraith, Inej Ghafa. Here are 5 things you should know about her before the Shadow and Bone show comes out:
She was born in Nepal
That’s right, Suman, who is 23, was born in Nepal and moved to Edinburgh, England at the age of seven. Amita then went on to attend Sussex Downs College and train at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, where she graduated in 2018.
She took over the role of Naya in The Outpost
Not originally cast for the recurring role of Naya, Amita took over this role in season 2, replacing Medalion Rahimi, who we here at Fangirlish know from her NCIS: Los Angeles role as Fatima Namazi. Before being cast in the lead role of Inej Ghafa in Shadow and Bone, this was her biggest acting credit. We don’t think anyone’s going to be thinking of Naya when they see her anymore, though.
She guest-stared on Dr. Who

She played a pivotal role in the the Dr. Who season 11 episode “Demons of the Punjab,” where she starred as younger version of Yasmin Khan‘s grandmother, Umbreen. This was her first big break, and chance for audiences to get to know her, and it’s safe to say she made an impression.
She enjoys traveling
If her Instagram is anything to go by, Amita really does enjoy traveling, getting to know new places, exploring different cultures. The pandemic has put a pause on her traveling schedule – and ours – but hopefully soon we can all go back to discovering all that’s great about this big old world.
She’s gets along great with the rest of the cast
We only have the pictures and press that’s started to come out to go by, but Amita seems to get along great with her Shadow and Bone costars, especially with Freddy Carter and Kit Young – because, of course, the crows have to stick together, and with Jessie Mei Li, because hey, girls gotta stick together too!
