We’re here one more week! After everything that happened in the previous episode, Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” makes us like Charles again and feel that Charliza’s return is closer than we think but, above all, they have once again found the best version of the two of them together. Let’s review!
Charliza is still the headache of Younger‘s final season and Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” is no exception. At first, her short call with Diana brings them together for a moment, they both appreciate her and the least they can do is forget about all their troubles for a moment to enjoy the company of a friend. However, everything was a facade, and as soon as the call is done, they separate as if the other burned.
Longing and uncomfortable looks are the protagonists in this situation. They don’t know how to be in the same room together … everything is too strange and uncomfortable between them because they both have in mind what they had, what could be and was not.

At the wake, the two of them talk and can almost forget everything that happened. Almost. But things are still destroyed between them … and more so when Liza sees how Charles goes with the “grieving” widow. She’s not stupid, she knows how she the widow looked at him and for Charles to go with her… it’s like one more reassurance that he’s determined to move on.
However, Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” surprises us and it turns out that between them there is a story from the past that Charles is not exactly proud of … and that she takes the opportunity to pressure him. “You owe me.” Sorry?
We sensed that this woman was a harpy but we did not know how much until now. Harpies seem to be Charles’s type lately … although now he’s not at fault. This lizard wants to take advantage of him and of his guilt, of that nobility and rectitude that characterizes him … and she succeeds. Charles feels how his past is coming back to haunt him… while Liza can’t control her jealousy.
But she manages to push it aside to help him and be there for Charles. I have always admired this in Liza. And, for a moment, Charliza is a team again, working together, bonding, supporting each other, helping each other, exactly as it was before. In fact, Charles opens up with her and confesses what is really going on and how guilty he feels about this affair.
He was always an upright man, with impeccable principles and morals but he feels that at that moment in his life he failed, he feels that he failed himself and that is killing him, shame is killing him. Liza wants to help, be there for him but Charles closes down … It is a problem that he must solve.
However, Liza is unwilling to let it go. She knows that Charles needs her and she is not going to leave him alone, even if he insists on it. That is why she accompanies him, only as moral support. Together, they refuse to republish the books – stereotyped and sexualized female characters in 2021, really? Good thing they know better and they’re not going to publish that shit. This boy seems so dumb to me, I’m not going to lie to you. However, his story sets off all alarms in Charles. This… may be his son.
In fact, Charles firmly believes that he is. Everything fits and it’s just too much. Liza tries to help him navigate through all of that. He was young, stupid and just got carried away … but Charles feels guilty and ashamed of it. His principles, his morals, his righteousness are part of him, they are who he is and knowing that a mistake could have such consequences… it’s killing him.

Especially because it is not only him who is affected, it is that young man and also … his daughters. Here Liza immediately thinks of Quinn, they are supposed to be together, it is a bomb that she should know but Charles did not think of her at any time and that tells us everything we need to know.
Charles is looking at everything from an adult perspective … something he was not at the time. But it is understandable that he feels ashamed because his principles are everything to him, the model he wants his daughters to fixate on, the values he teaches them… they are everything.
Fortunately, he doesn’t remain in doubt for long … and he goes to see the widow to find out everything. She basically laughs in his face… he wasn’t the only one she had a casual relationship with at the time. And Charles, well, here he is relieved not to have lost an iota of his righteousness even in his younger and wildest years, not even when he knew he was making a mistake. The widow takes advantage of the moment to put her claws on Charles but he turns away from her … and, finally, we like Charles again in Younger‘s Final Season.
Liza is right there when Charles finishes his business, just in case he needs a friend or someone to talk to. He smiles, he knows he can always count on her, no matter what. It’s one of the things he fell in love with, her big heart, the ability to leave everything for the ones she loves the most. Liza doesn’t want to step into his private life, Charles made it clear that she was not welcome there but she… wants to know if he ultimately has a new child or not. Charles confirms that he doesn’t.
And Liza only cares about him. She knows that this has affected Charles a lot … and it is just like that. He’s ashamed because what he did feels out of place, and that affair was always one of his great regrets, although it did mean something to him, he would have had nothing to do with her if it hadn’t. He always had that sense of commitment even when he was younger, he wasn’t cut out for casual sex. And somehow it hurts him that it wasn’t as special to her as it was to him.
Luckily, this misadventure together helped them to get closer, not to be uncomfortable together and to be able to regain what they had before they were together. At the end of the day, they were always friends, they were always a team and they cannot lose that despite not being together more as a couple. That is why they are going to publish that risky book together.
And that’s how Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” felt to them, like a return to their origins that brought them close again. After all, here, Charles chose to spend this with Liza and not with Quinn. She helped him get through this chapter of his past, to close it for good, and Liza is just happy that he did. The past must be that, past, now they must focus on the present and enjoy the future. They must move on.

Those two words, “move on” change something in Charles. Suddenly, he feels that they are not talking about what they have experienced in Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” but about their relationship. Is that really what they want? And Liza affirms it. It is the healthiest. Move on. And the two of them just laugh together, like before, like a long time ago. Even if it hurts, it is what they should do. Move on and regain the friendship that united them from the beginning. That special understanding.
I agree that it is the healthiest thing to do, but I don’t think any of them can move on. They need to try though … only to find that they can’t forget no matter how hard they try. In fact, what we saw in Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises” it’s just a way of going back to the beginning to remind them of what they can accomplish together, the step before they get back together. I’m sure.
That being said, those looks and smiles between Josh and Liza have more chemistry and more zing than a whole episode of Charliza. Still Team Josh. I said what I said.
We saw our Diana again! For reasons stemming from COVID – 19, the actress couldn’t shoot too much for Younger final season, as happened with Zane, so I’m glad they didn’t forget about her and bring her back more authentic than ever and give us an explanation for her non-return. Very well explained and a very good moment. Diana is still a queen and she’s going to continue to enjoy her man and her married life for a little while longer. We just hope she can come back for the series finale.
Lauren is wonderful? Lauren is wonderful! The best friend we all dream of having. She is always there to support Kelsey, Liza or whoever needs her. For her, her friends are her family, so she does everything to let them know that they count on her. Of course, in the way of her, a peculiar way, crazy way, and so Lauren that we love her even more for it.
In the midst of this madness, a real estate agent appears who I think could be Kelsey’s next love interest – those looks … they burned -. I still haven’t decided if I like this man, he sounds… too arrogant at times. Maybe a bit like Zane, because he’s arrogant too, only his arrogance made you smile and this new character’s, for the moment, makes me roll my eyes.
But I think that is the intention, that this character reminds us of Zane to try to recover that tug of war that so attracted the fandom of this couple. Although maybe I’m wrong and appearances are deceiving …
Actually, my romantic heart still waits for Zane to come back in the series finale, apologize for being a jerk, and prove that he does deserve Kelsey, but I’m not going to deny Kelsey having fun in the meantime, so … Go ahead, girl!

Things get pretty tough for Maggie. She tries to get away from that woman, now that she knows that she is married and is the wife of her boss but … she insists. And her boss confides in her that she knows that her wife has a mistress. Maggie has no idea what to do, it is a delicate situation because she cannot lose her dream job but she hates lying like that to someone who has opened all the doors for her since she met her, she feels she owes her at least some sincerity.
Maggie doesn’t have much time to wallow in her guilt because her boss learns the whole truth in a very public, embarrassing and, let’s face it, funny way. At first, she seems like she’s taking it easy … but it’s just the calm that precedes the storm and she doesn’t take long to accuse Maggie of being transphobic. Maggie! Until now, we felt sorry for this woman, but right now we can’t stand her.
Maggie had no idea that this woman she just hooked up with one night was married to her boss. She is not to blame for anything. As soon as she found out, she cut everything off and then just couldn’t get out of that mess. Instead of trying to ruin Maggie’s career, this woman should talk to her wife because she is the one cheating on her and keeps sending provocative photos to another woman… and I’m sure it’s not the first time.
So yeah, get your shit in order, girl, no one’s messing with our Maggie! We just hope Maggie and her career can get through this.
Here ends our Younger 7×07 “The Son Also Rises”. We will be back next week with a new one.
