I mean, I don’t want to say I told you so (I do), but didn’t I say that the Sheriff was involved. I mean that shifty piece of shit was way too casual about his son dying and way too casual about wanting to arrest someone for Lil Bill’s death. He’s been way too uncaring about his wife, way too whatever about everything else.
But my only thing is – how involved was Dodge? How could he now have known everything that was happening? How could he not have known that the payday would be bigger because his Mama’s fuck buddy was the ring leader.
Carp, Texas is a nightmare, but it’s not shocking. It’s not surprising that leaders of a town are the most corrupt individuals. It’s not surprising to me that there is no one to trust and everything is a lie.
But what pisses me off the most is that they brought a kid into this and put that child in a cage with a tiger. Like WTF! No.
Let’s break it down.
JIMMY TOOK HIS OWN LIFE
We all have secrets. That has been an ongoing theme. Watching them all unravel has led us to where we need to be. Well almost. But it’s led us also to knowing that everything is not what it seems.
Melanie Cortez goes to visit Langley and she tells her that Jimmy took his own life. She explains how he was the only one with access to the safe, and she opened it and found the training gun and a note. Jimmy switched out the gun – he wanted to die.
And he left his Mom a note saying goodbye.
She asks Langley to not tell Cortez, that she wants to be the one to tell him. She tells her that she did want to take her own life, in not so many words.
When she does confront Cortez, it’s because she’s cleaning up Jimmy’s room and putting his stuff away. I think there is a peace in knowing that he said goodbye to her. But for Cortez there is more pain, but I think that we’ll learn exactly what he did, eventually.
ANNE IS GONE
I like the fact that Anne took Heather and Lily in. It may be the nicest home that they’ve ever had, but it’s also the safest. For the first time in their lives they feel like they are not going to have to worry about tomorrow and just deal with today.
Anne had a trip to go on, which hey, I get, but it’s definitely not the best time for any of this. With the game still going on, how chaotic that it all can get, and well, there is the tiger. But Anne reminds Heather to make sure that she keeps her sister away from Tom (the tiger).
And for Heather that’s common sense. Lily is the one person that she will always protect. Lily is the one person that she will give everything up for. And I can respect that.
After all, isn’t all family everything?
Anne tells Heather that she has a package in the kitchen and her first thought goes to it being something about her individual challenge that is coming up. She’s hesitant and scared, but she’s ready to deal with whatever comes her way.
The package was left on the porch and it just has Heather’s name on it. She takes a deep breathe and opens it.
BISHOP IS LEAVING
If you write, you are a writer. That’s what I believe. And if you are a writer, your dream may be to publish your writing.
For Heather, a book is a dream. And Bishop loves her enough to know her dreams.
While Heather is opening the box, he’s at his house, with Natalie. She’s upset because she has no one left – she’s pushed everyone away. But I feel like with Bishop will always be there for everyone. I don’t trust what his involvement with the game is, but I do think to a certain point her cares and loves Heather.
But that being said, what he did for Heather is the most important thing. He took her writings and had them bound and set in a book.
By the time that Heather gets to Bishop’s, Natalie is gone. It’s the two of them on a swing, Heather and Bishop, talking. It was the kindest thing that anyone ever did for Heather. She realizes that Bishop cares, but he’s leaving and she can’t go.
He tells her that he’s leaving in a week. She doesn’t know what she’s going to do without him and I get that. It’s hard when you’ve relied on someone your entire life, when that person has been a part of the good and the bad, and you just figured out how you feel.
But will Heather feel the same if she knew all of the secrets that Bishop carries?
RAY CONFRONTS HIS BROTHER
Ray confronts Luke over the girl that he hit three years ago. He tells Ray that the girl he hit is still alive and that she’s Dodge’s sister. Luke may not be a good guy, but Ray wants to protect his brother.
He tells Luke that he doesn’t know the extent of the shit that he is into, but Cortez is coming for him and he needs to know.
Luke tells him that three years ago, he was sitting in a prison cell and there was no way that he could have been the person that hit Dana. Knowing that, my money is on Cortez being the one that did it.
Ray doesn’t know what to believe and so he goes to Natalie to help. Which, hey if we’re being honest, I didn’t know that Natalie had it in her to not be a selfish bitch and care about others.
He asks Natalie to pull his brothers records to see if he’s telling the truth. He plays on her like of Dana.
There is a part of me that things that Natalie really does like Dodge and therefore would protect his family. But there is another part of me that doesn’t believe that she knows how to care about anyone.
NATALIE IS A JUDGE
Natalie, is not my favorite person. She’s a manipulative biotch. But it’s Dana who has all the clues put together and gives us all the information to find out that Dana is a judge.
She mentioned to Dodge that she was at the pharmacy and saw the book that Natalie keeps there with all the research that she’s done on the other players. She’s very detailed.
And it’s there that Dodge realizes that Natalie is a judge.
He’s told Natalie to stay away from his family because she told the judges about Dana. But when he’s driving home he sees her walking from his house so he stops the car and asks her what she’s doing.
Natalie explains that he was helping Dana and she has proof. He’s pissed and he’s hurt and so he’s not thinking about what she’s saying, but is thinking about the shit she’s done. Natalie just wanted out of Carp and that’s why she became a judge.
But she didn’t think about the consequences of her actions and that’s what is so hard to swallow. She’s not going to be able to make friends with people when she betrayed them. It’s not that easy.
INDIVIDUAL CHALLENGE
Heather’s individual challenge comes up and she’s in an escape room. But seconds after it starts, she gets a call that her sister is in trouble.
She leaves immediately to make sure that Lily is okay, heading to Anne’s to see what is happening. She finds a map and realizes that the kids missing from the slumber party are at the tigers cage.
Instinct kicks in and she runs to the cage, where she finds Lily inside, with Tom coming slowly at her. Lily is terrified, her friends are all standing outside the cage. What the fuck? Why is Lily the only one that went in? No, I don’t want anything to happen to any of these kids, but like why is Lily the one in there?
Heather tells her to be brave and gets her out. I have to admit, I am gagging at the throwing of the meat at the tiger but hey, I woulda thrown anything at the tiger to get my sister out of there.
Heather gets Lily back to the house and Summer comes to pick up the other girls. Diggins tries to tell Heather that he’s sorry – but I wonder what he’s truly sorry for. He’s just as wrapped up in this game as the others and there is something more he could have done. I don’t believe he’s innocent.
THE SHERIFF IS THE PSYCHO
Heather takes Lily to camp and asks her sister again who gave her the map. Lily tells her she can’t tell, that it’s all part of the game. But when Heather tries to tell her that she can tell her, the teacher rushes Lily inside.
She tells Heather that there is a tiger on the loose.
Fuck, fuck, fuck! Heather knew that the gates had to stay closed at all times. But in my opinion it’s not shocking that this is happening. I mean shit – her sister was her main priority.
She heads to the Sheriff’s station to talk to Captain Williams. He’s not there. But all the clues are starting to fall into place.
- The betting sheet that Heather has says Doc Magic on it.
- The coat that Captain Williams and Langley found at Myra’s says Doc Magic. It also has a note from Jimmy saying that you took everything from me.
- Doc Magic is the sheriff’s high school football nickname.
- There is a big tribute on the wall to the sheriff’s high school days.
- Mrs. Cortez said that they had money problems for awhile.
We all know that the Sheriff is a liar. Dodge’s family is calling that shit out too. His Mom says he won’t participate and the Sheriff is playing on her concerns for her daughter to manipulate her when she says that Dodge won’t play anymore.
It’s getting beyond complicated.
Heather knows that it is bigger than she thought it was. She goes to talk to Natalie (who she should never forgive. She tells her what she knows. They have to take the game back. It’s game on bitches.
OTHER THOUGHTS
