Untitled Horror Movie is a perfect example as to why you shouldn’t mess with spooky shit. Seriously, my birth mother and I don’t really get along but she taught me that there are forces out there that you don’t mess with. And years later, I still remember her warning. Because if I can believe that miracles happen then I can believe that bad things happen too.
The first half of this movie was chill. It was full of a cast of characters that were as different as people can be. But even the most narcissistic or ditsy one of the gang was interesting and I wanted to see more of them. Kat McNamara‘s Chrissy was a personal favorite. She gave it her all to play this sweet character who got in way over her head. Like seriously, way over her head to the point where she was driving the movie forward.
Emmy Raver-Lampman, who played Alex, was also one of my personal favorites. Her character knew what she wanted and she had no problem asking for it. And she didn’t let the other cast of characters walk all over her. She was going to shine amongst the crowd. Sure, she ended up being like the rest of the actors at the end but that doesn’t erase everything she was before.
Then there’s the second half of the movie…the half where they realize that they’ve inadvertently summoned a spirit or demon of some sort. Which, any time they said the spell I muted the movie. I’m not risking anything for anyone and I’m going to stick with that mantra for my life. But back to the second half, Kat and Emmy were selling this thing from top to bottom and I loved their bits.
But the best part of the movie came when they were all…taken care of by the spirit, in a manner of speaking. I know that sounds evil and all but they had it coming. They had it coming. They only had themselves to blameeeee. (Yes, I have been listening to the Chicago soundtrack.) Chrissy died and all they were worried about was their show and the fact they were getting 3 more seasons.
Ultimately, I enjoyed Untitled Horror Movie. It was at times funny and others super spooky with a side of “I’m never going to do that because that’s asking for trouble.” They went for it and created a unique movie in the middle of a pandemic that felt very meta that entertained me for an hour and a half. That’s more than I can say for other movies in 2021.
Untitled Horror Movie is now available.
