Just when we think Halsey can’t surprise us anymore, she does. Just this past Wednesday (July 7th), Halsey revealed the cover art and release date for her fourth album, If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power. Before we even got the chance to absorb it all, she once again caught us off guard by dropping a film trailer almost a week later (July 13th). Yes, we said a film trailer. Halsey is starring in their own film titled, you guessed it, If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power.
This film is about the lifelong social labyrinth of sexuality and birth.
The greatest horror stories never told were buried with the bodies of those who died in that labyrinth…
Check out the trailer below.
This looks absolutely stunning, doesn’t it? And what a concept right? The theme of motherhood is prevalent throughout but like the tagline says, it’s one of the greatest horror stories never told. We don’t often see what some view as the “ugly side” of pregnancy and it’s clear Halsey plans to showcase that and more with this film. We are blown away by Halsey’s creative mind and most importantly the fact that they made a whole ass movie while they’re pregnant. Halsey is so secretive, and they definitely surprised us with this film news. Some fans have actually been speculating about a film theory for awhile especially since Halsey themselves announced back in 2018 that a film about their life story was in the works. Obviously plans on that changed, but we have no complaints and are good with this latest project.
The film, which is entirely based on Halsey’s upcoming fourth album, was written by her and directed by Grammy-nominated American music video director, Collin Tilley. This isn’t the first time he has worked with Halsey (see Halsey’s music videos for Without Me, and You Should Be Sad), so we can’t wait to see what they have put together. One of the coolest things about this film – other than the fact that it is a whole experience inspired by her album – is that it’s going to be shown in IMAX.
If you don’t already know this, IMAX is one of the most immersive movie experiences. The film aspect is a lot larger than the average screen, so much so that you feel as if you are right in the setting of what is happening onscreen. Not to mention the sound quality. It is immaculate, and I don’t know about you all but I can’t wait to hear Halsey’s album on those loud speakers. Just hearing the song in the trailer gives me chills. Seriously, if you have never experienced a film in IMAX, what are you doing with your life?
If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power is set to have a limited run in IMAX. No show dates have been announced yet but, tickets will go on sale August 3rd. You know I’ll be grabbing mine and you should too.
What do you think about the trailer for If I Can’t Love I Want Power? Will you be watching it when it releases? Tell us in the comments.
Heck yeah!
