USA Gymnastics announced this morning that Simon Biles and Suni Lee will be competing in the individual competition for the beam this week for the United States at the Tokyo Olympics.
Simone has previously withdrawn from competitions, to concentrate on her mental health. She has said that her mind and body were not connecting and she has the “twisties.”
What are the twisties? They are, “sudden inability for a gymnast to make the requisite spins — or sometimes any spins — for a particular maneuver.”
Some of the world have been complete assholes to Simone and shown their ignorance. Twitter in particular has been a place that shows both kindness and cruelty. However, the love and support that Simone has received has outshined anything else. Simone even tweeting that, “The outpouring [of] love and support I’ve received has made me realize I’m more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before.”
Simone doesn’t owe anyone anything. Let’s all remember that. She is the greatest of all time, but she is also a human being and the amount of pressure that is put on her is a lot to handle. Some of you can’t even handle wearing a mask or getting vaccinated, so none of us want to hear the negativity.
