Chapelwaite is getting closer and closer and after our interview with its executive producers, we had the pleasure of sitting down to interview its star Emily Hampshire, who we know is very familiar for fans of Schitt’s Creek and 12 Monkeys, about the show, her character Rebecca and yes, Jennifer and Stevie too because we’re super fans of them! Ready?
Here we go!
In Chapelwaite Emily Hampshire puts herself in Rebecca’s shoes, an ambitious young woman who applies to be the governess of the infamous Chapelwaite manor and the Boone family in order to write about them. In doing so, Rebecca will not only craft the great next gothic novel, she’ll unravel a mystery that has plagued her own family for years.
With this description, Rebecca is very different from other characters that she played as Jennifer or Stevie and we asked Emily Hampshire about this to find out what it was like for her to play such different characters and the different nuances that each had.
After exploring Rebecca a bit, we wanted to have fun with Emily Hampshire and ask her opinion on who would get along better with Rebecca…Jennifer or Stevie? And the answer might surprise you …
It was a real pleasure chatting with Emily. I have been a fan of her since 12 Monkeys and very recently I began to see Schitt’s Creek and I’m fascinated by the way she faces such different characters and how she always gives them a special, personal touch that makes them even better. You can’t imagine anyone else being Rebecca, Jennifer or Stevie and not all of the artists achieve something like that.
So you can imagine that chatting with Emily was tremendously exciting and if I already loved her before, after our interview I ended up loving her more. She is natural, funny, spontaneous, kind, sweet and always, always, she has a smile for you. Always.
She smiles at you and makes you smile. Also, her love for her work, for all the characters she plays, is right there, in each of her words. You can feel that each character that she plays takes a part of her and Emily gets a part of them.
I really admire Emily Hampshire and want to be like her when I grow up.
I hope to have the opportunity to talk to Emily again soon because I was wanting more, I was wanting to have coffee together and learn from her even more. And those interviews are the best.
Here ends our interview with Emily Hampshire. Stay tuned for our coverage of Chapelwaite because tomorrow you will discover something more about this show. See you tomorrow!
