We can finally talk about Chicago Party Aunt! It was about time we met this daring and irreverent show that has us hooked. Chicago Party Aunt 1×01 “Chicago Party Aunt” manages to introduce us to the characters while making us laugh out loud and we begin to love Diane. Time for review!
Here we go!
Diane’s a mess. But that kind of mess that sometimes you must have in your life. Life doesn’t stop giving her lemons and overnight she loses her job, her husband and her house, but she doesn’t allow herself to be intimidated. She’s fine, she always is … just that she’s not. Diane’s immensely strong and brave and she knows that she’s going to pull through like she always has but even the strongest need a hug and comfort from time to time.
In Chicago Party Aunt 1×01 “Chicago Party Aunt” Diane has lost everything suddenly but she’s one of those people who always gets up with a smile, even though inside she’s destroyed, she pretends, she pretends that everything is fine, that she’s okay and she doesn’t need anybody to say a word of encouragement to her, but, yeah, she does. And this song sounds a lot to us … who hasn’t pretended in front of others that we were fine and smiled even though we just wanted to cry? You never know the pain that hides a smile …
The truth is that I understand Diane’s husband but not her sister, that is, she only gives her a week to pick up her things and throws her out of her house like that, suddenly and without having told her before. I mean, ma’am, with a week I don’t even have time to pack all my things.
Diane and her sister have had an exchange of strong words in Chicago Party Aunt 1×01 “Chicago Party Aunt,” the two have said hurtful things and although we think that her sister is right that Diane needs to be more aware of everything and stop looking for a party that’s over, the way she says it… it hurts. Sometimes, it is not the things we say, but how we say them. Diane’s sister, despite what it may seem, loves her very much and doesn’t want to hurt her but she does. Diane’s face of pain mirrors ours …
But Diane’s one of those people that no matter what happens, she’s always there when you need her. And her nephew Daniel needs her a lot in Chicago Party Aunt 1×01 “Chicago Party Aunt.” He’s about to go to Stanford, one of the most prestigious universities, his parents are delighted but he… not so much. I mean, he wants to be, he knows that getting into that university is something very big and everyone is so proud of him… that he doesn’t understand why he doesn’t feel happy.
So he tries to feel that way … but Diane sees through it. Nobody really asked him if he wanted to go to that university, he just got carried away by what others wanted and what he was supposed to do but he never stopped to think what he wanted to do. So it’s time to do it. Diane’s a mess but she always does what she really wants and she doesn’t get carried away by anyone. Time to be a little like her.
His mother… she takes it better than we could think, really. She realizes that Diane saw what she couldn’t see: that her child was not happy. And that is the only thing that matters to her, that he’s happy and she must accept that what she wants for him is not what makes him happy. We’re a bit proud of her.
That’s why, in the end, aunt and nephew end up living together for a year. Bonnie knows that Diane will take care of Daniel with her life. She can trust her for that.
