2021 is coming to an end, and that means that we have the joyous task of trying to figure out all the things that we swooned over and loved in 2021. There are a lot of things that brought us joy – our newfound love for soju, podcasts, k-dramas, k-pop, Taylor Swift. And there are a lot of things that made us consider dropping off the face of the Earth and hoping that all forms of social media evaporate.
Now that is partly cause some people are keyboard warriors who are complete douchebags and make the world a miserable place. And the other part of it is that Mark Zuckerberg owns too much of it and he too is a complete douchebag.
The pandemic made some places better and also brought out the fact that some people who we’re supposed to look up to, frankly don’t know how to do their jobs. Social media isn’t easy — we know. We truly know that. Especially when you’ve worked so hard on it and someone snatches it away like you were playing puff, puff, give, give. And it is a social media managers nightmare to watch that happen – someone destroying what you’ve built.
Lord, I sound like a bitter bitch, and I probably am. I accept it. But what I also know is that there are many things this year that have brought all of us joy.
Instagram is one of our favorite platforms. It’s been the way that people connect and make you feel as though you can forget that you are in a pandemic. It’s the platform where people have been real.
And a lot less curation is needed, because even that is fading.
When we’re talking about our favorites this year it’s been about people that make you feel like you can forget that you are in the middle of a pandemic. It’s about the people that make you feel valued. It’s about the people and brands and celebrities that that make you feel joy.
Because a lot of life isn’t that lately. So who has been bringing us joy this year? A lot of people. But we’re breaking down some of them on this list.
If you have to ask why Chris Evans makes the list, we do hope that you go and follow him. Evans love for his dog, Dodger is adorable. But as with most, it is Evans stories that make us love him even more. Piano playing stories are everything. But whatever it is that Chris posts, our favorite are his posts with his dog. Dodger is life.
Everything goes back to Twilight & that includes us. What we love about Twilight is that it is active and it makes sure that they come from the idea that fans come first. They know that fandoms were built by fans. They approach things like a super fan – which so many movie franchises could take note on. You can’t just slap a picture up and expect everyone to keep coming back.
Especially when you don’t engage.
But Twilight engages. They make sure that they fans know they come first. We respect that.
In the pandemic our love for K-Dramas has grown. It has grown deep. And we’re not talking Squid Games (though good) we’re talking Goblin, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, Penthouse, and more. There are just so many options out there.
What The Swoon does is capture everything that you feel about K-Dramas and makes everything feel relatable. They get your intrigued for all the new things that are coming.
Honestly, no one does drama like K-Dramas. If you aren’t watching them, you should be.
We’ve grown to watch a lot of Bravo during this pandemic and not even trying to shade Bravo, but Betches promotes them better than they promote themselves. Bravo By Betches says all of the shit that you want to say but don’t know how to put into words. Dylan Hafer is a gem, and his love for Bravo shines bright. But he also mixes in that smart ass reality that we want to hear.
Bravo could learn a thing or two from their approach.
Michael Vlamis is a gift to this earth. It’s not only because of his curls, his CW star abs, or his love for food. It’s because the man knows how to give his fans what they want. They want to laugh, the want to feel a connection.
And he makes sure that they feel one.
He can talk you into anything with that charming smile. But our favorite part of Michael’s Instagram? When he is at home with his family. His love for his Mom and her cooking is everything.
We have loved Britney Spears forever, but what we love about her Instagram is that she’s given everything that she can and made sure to have some sort of connection with her fans. Britney is a fighter, she’s amazing. And after her conservatorship was terminated, she opened up even more. We love getting to know her even better. Seeing Britney happy makes us all happy.
We’ve been fans since our teens and will remain fans til we die. She’s an icon and someone that we’ll always fight for.
You know those people that are just hilarious and that say the things that you wish that you thought of. That’s Sara. Her tweets are hilarious and she posts them all here and it brings us SO MUCH JOY.
If we have to explain the genius that is Taylor Swift, you are in the wrong place. We’ll need you to reassess your values and Instagram follows.
Podcasts have become even more popular this year and one that we’ve started listening to more is Call Her Daddy. It’s real, it’s funny, and it seems like nothing is off limits at all. We can totally get down with that.
One Alexandra’s Instagram page and Call Her Daddy‘s Instagram page – there are just no fucks given. It’s all about life, the fun of it, and the reality of it. But the real reason we love it is her stories, where she makes everything in her life a part of yours.
She doesn’t need to be that open, but she is. She knows she is where she is, because of her fans. And she doesn’t take that for granted.
