The newest Scream is coming soon but not soon enough. Luckily, there’s a great way for you to kill the time between now and its January 14 release: Hop on TikTok and spend some time with user “@TooBrAshSarah.” Who is this new user, and what’s with the capitalized S-T-A-B in her handle? Welcome to Scream (2022)’s official ARG (that’s Alternate Reality Game for us olds), which will put you right smack in the center of the investigative action in Woodsboro.
As part of the TikTok ARG, you’ll meet Sarah and Ash, two Woodsboro High students. It’s a typical TikTok at first, with a “Best Friends Challenge” video and some chatter about some of the top slasher movie kills. (In the real world, Scream‘s Casey Becker would absolutely be Number One here, closely followed by Scream 2‘s Maureen Evans, obviously. In Woodsboro, we’ll take Sarah’s word for it.)
But Sarah’s account goes from all fun and games to basically Woodsboro’s edition of a true crime TikTok. Because well…It’s happening again. Ghostface is back in town, and as all the Scream (2022) promotional material so far has told us: It’s always someone you know.
But with Sarah and Ash breaking down possible suspects, are they actually helping their followers become the next Gale Weathers? Will we solve the case before Ghostface returns in January 2022? Or…Since Sarah—if that’s even her real name—is truly such a fan of the Stab franchise, should we be joining her on her quest to #SaveWoodsboro and sending all our footage to stopthestab@gmail.com like she asked? Or are she and her bestie cleverly leading us away from the killer’s trail? The pure genius here is that it’s anybody’s guess.
We’re totally going to enjoy the ride either way. (We can’t decide whether we’re intrigued or depressed by hearing there’s a new generation of Meeks kids in town, though. Justice for Randy.)
But don’t just take our word for how great this is. Check out some tweets:
