Diana and Matthew Are Here to Change the World

Bishmont continues to be the shining light of A Discovery of Witches. Even in the middle of their pain and the loss of Emily, they are here to change the world. They don’t care what the Congregation has to say or what Baldwin wants. Change is here to stay and they will do everything in their power to unite the witches, vampires, and daemons. Because the time of fear and separation has ended if they want to make sure their people survive into the next generation.
A huge obstacle in their future at uniting the witches, vampires, and daemons is Baldwin. He’s stuck in what he thinks his father wants instead of listening to how his father changed and how he accepted Diana into their world, family, and home. That makes Diana and Matthew’s mission exceptionally hard. Why? Because he treats those Bishmont see as family, and as the future, as if they were second-class citizens. And Diana and Matthew have no time for that nonsense.
What Diana and Matthew are doing for the world of creatures is becoming clearer with every second that passes on A Discovery of Witches. And if anything, it’s endeared us to them even more. This kind of unity, grounded in love and respect, is what we need to see more of in our world. And yes, it’s hard and sometimes it feels impossible. But if creatures from different walks of life can come together, who’s to say that we can’t do the same with humans?
Matthew Having Diana’s Back is Hot

Let’s make one thing abundantly clear, Diana doesn’t need Matthew. She can take this on by herself. And if she had to, she’d kick ass at it. That’s just who Diana is. But she doesn’t have to take this on by herself. Matthew is there and Diana knows how important his love, protection, and hope are to her life. That’s what great relationships are about, what we add to each other’s lives, and Diana sees that in Matthew. That’s why him having her back is just so damn hot.
Too often we’re used to seeing an alpha male who would overshadow someone like Diana. In another writer, showrunner, or actor’s hands, Diana would disappear in Matthew’s bravado to get revenge for the pain his mate is going through. But this isn’t another show. This is A Discovery of Witches and Bishmont aren’t any other couple. These two complement each other in a way that Diana’s pain is Matthew’s and he is following her lead when it comes to that pain.
Seriously, Matthew remains in season 3 the kind of vampire who would stand behind Diana and massage her shoulders while talking her up to anyone who’d listen. Because this is his boo and he knows that she can handle herself, whatever may come. And that includes when she’s in pain, when she’s happy, or when she’s about to smack someone down like Peter Knox or Satu. (Those two have had it coming for seasons and we can’t wait for Diana to show them how it is.)
Peter Knox’ End is Coming

Readers, you do not understand that cackle that we let out when Satu voted to out Peter Knox from the Congregation. We don’t like Satu. Never have, never will. But it brought us delight like we’ve never experienced before. Go back to that scene where she raised her hand. The sheer delight on that woman’s face was chef’s kiss. And she tried to hold it back. But at some point, she decided “fuck it” and looked absolutely tickled by what she was doing.
Knox has been a thorn in Satu’s side from the very start. He’s thought of Diana as the biggest threat to his existence and power. And that has angered Satu from the moment she met him. Because in her eyes, she has the power to take on someone like Diana. And if given the chance, she’d take Diana down and rightfully take her place as the most powerful witch the world has ever known. Too bad for her that she doesn’t understand Diana’s powers.
Ultimately, these two will be taken down a huge notch. Until then, we’re going to laugh and point at Knox for how he thought he could use another woman with no consequences. There will be consequences for men like him that think women are nothing but pawns. Maybe it won’t hit them immediately. But it will one day, just like it happened to Knox when Satu hit him with his expulsion and that hit of magic.
A Discovery of Witches season 3 airs every Saturday.
