In 1996, Scream totally rewrote the rules for horror movies. In 2022, the unique Scream TikTok ARG has completely rewritten the rules for marketing a movie.
When we originally introduced you to the Scream TikTok ARG, things were just starting to heat up. It was fun, kind of intriguing and a way to get us ready for the latest Scream movie…But a lot has happened in just a few short weeks. And we’re wondering if TikTok user TooBrAshSarah‘s whole #SaveWoodsboro campaign has upset the wrong guy.
You know the one. Or, well. You’ll know him soon enough if you get your Scream (2022) tickets.
So, here’s what’s been happening in Woodsboro:
After Woodsboro High students and total besties, Sarah and Ash, started asking for tips, fans started helping uncover clues about Ghostface’s identity. In one of the most unique and fun ways to market a film ever, we all had the chance to solve puzzles and win some essential Scream movie swag in the form of these scarily awesome Woodsboro Horror Film Club hoodies.
(If you missed out on your chance to win one from the Scream TikTok ARG, we’ve totally got you covered with our giveaway here.)
Some of Sarah and Ash’s theories centered around their classmates at Woodsboro High, especially anyone with connections to key players from the original round of killings.
This even led to some participation from Scream (2022) cast members participating, adding their own TikTok videos as their characters in the latest blood-filled love letter from Ghostface. You really don’t want to miss these contributions from Dylan Minnette (Wes), Melissa Barrera (Sam), and Mason Gooding (Chad):
But then, well. As things do around Woodsboro, things got a little creepy. Breaking the number one rule of remakes, Sarah even decided to fuck with the original in the form of coming for the one and only Gale Weathers.
We…don’t do that in this house. The only person who can come for Gale is Sidney Prescott (Tatum Riley voice: Bam! Bitch went down! Bam! Sid! Superbitch!). Although, come to think of it…
…y’all.
Could Gale be the latest Ghostface? It wasn’t long after Sarah called Gale a “vulture” and accused her of starting a bloodbath for marketing purposes that her best friend, Ash, disappeared. When he finally called her, all she got was some garbled audio…which, of course, turned out to be nothing more than a message from Ghostface. I guess he’s moved beyond asking about Woodsboro residents’ favorite scary movies and just started doing whatever this is…
Really enjoying the #SaveWoodsboro #ScreamMovie TikTok ARG. The actors are enjoyable and there’s been a few simple steganography puzzles. Here’s Ghostface from the latest puzzle!

And now, well.
The latest from our absolute favorite, official, Scream TikTok account? Ash—yes, the same Ash who disappeared for several days—invited Sarah to a party. And she’s on her way there…in the middle of Ghostface’s latest killing spree. She claims to have seen Stab, but um. We’re starting to wonder because everyone knows Ghostface and big parties for Woodsboro High students don’t mix.
…or maybe they mix a little too well. Bloody well, if you will.
That house looks really familiar, and…so does our surprise guest at the end. If we weren’t already excited for the latest film—which, to be clear, we are so ready to see Sid, Gale, Dewey, and all the newest characters—this utterly brilliant Scream TikTok ARG would have sucked us right in. There’s no way not to want to see this movie after such a cliffhanger. Does Sarah survive? And where has Ash been all this time? Has neither one of them seen Stab 3? At least our version showed us the dangers of accepting a party invite via text…
Honestly, if just a series of TikTok videos is this good, we have a feeling no one is prepared for this new movie. Not even those of us who’ve lived by Randy’s rules since 1996.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. The Scream TikTok ARG has tons of fans on Twitter, like these:
So, get ready. Get your tickets. And we’ll see you on the other side.
Scream (2022) is in theaters starting January 14.
