We’re back! The Rookie 4×15 “Hit List” is one of the best episodes of the season. It’s a complete episode both emotionally and in terms of plot and action. It’s brilliant and it’s been a while since we liked an episode of the show so much. Time for a review!
Here we go!
Normally, when we can’t say too much about an episode it’s a bad sign but The Rookie 4×15 “Hit List” is the exception. This episode was very complete and was so well developed both emotionally and plot-wise that we can only watch it over and over again on a loop. So we’re just going to make a few points, because the episode is brilliant.
We like Chris. Yeah, we never thought we’d say that but he earned all the points in this episode. You can tell that his feelings for Lucy are genuine and that he’s taking the time to learn and listen. Of course, we’re still rooting for Chenford but we think Chris is perfect for the point in the story where the show is, in an in-between phase with Chenford, where they still haven’t made up their minds to take the final step — but it will happen sooner rather than later.
We thought it was significant that Chris would give Lucy the witness list. His work was on the line but he didn’t care, it was the right thing to do and it was Lucy, he wants to change that first impression. He wants her to be proud of him.

However, Lucy did the right thing by not accepting it, despite the circumstances, precisely because Chris’s job was on the line. If she cares about this guy she can’t be the cause of him losing his job or getting in trouble, she would never forgive herself for it.
The only thing that didn’t quite convince us about this story was that Lucy was serious about becoming a lawyer. She would be good, no doubt, and she has so many ideas, wants to change the world so much…but changing the world is as difficult from the side she is on as it is from the other side and she fought to be where she is now, even facing her family for it. We believe that she is in the place she needs to be.
As for Grey, we’re so happy nothing serious happened to him in The Rookie 4×15 “Hit List.” Seriously, The Rookie couldn’t survive without Grey. But his safety came at a high price. And now Grey can’t stop thinking about it, replaying that fight in his head and repeating to himself that a person is dead because of him. Of course, he’s not to blame for anything and he was defending his own life but that doesn’t help much when things are so fresh and you just wish you could turn back time so it never would have happened.

Nolan is by his side, the way Grey was by him. Nolan understands because he’s been through it and it’s not easy… but Grey will learn to live with it. It will always be a burden that he will carry on his back but he will learn to carry it each day. The fact that it affects him so much means that he cares. And that’s why we love Grey because he cares, he’s a good cop and a good person.
Aaron had a shitty day on The Rookie 4×15 “Hit List.” Seriously, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The reality producer crossed a line that he shouldn’t have crossed and, in the end, that raised the tension in a difficult moment.
Patrick’s father…goddess, that was hard. Hard to hear and hard to see because this man is hurt, broken, and we can’t blame him for everything he says to Aaron, he truly believes that Aaron is the killer of his son. But at the same time, it’s so unfair that our hearts break in two.

That’s why we’re proud of Aaron for doing what he was supposed to do, setting that man free, and dotting the i’s for his reality show producer. They’re not going to profit from anyone’s pain.
Unfortunately, as Harper says, there’s nothing that’s going to change Patrick’s dad’s mind. He needs a culprit and Aaron looks like one in his eyes. We just hope that Aaron can find the real culprit and that he, Patrick, and his father can get the justice they deserve.
The Rookie airs Sundays at 10/9 on ABC.
