John Hughes films will always be iconic. The way he caught angst and tension on camera will always be something that will live with me. But that aside, we all know that things get remade.
And normally, I would be the first person to talk shit about anything iconic being remade, but this I can’t. Not with Tanya Saracho (Vida), Gabriela Revilla Lugo (Whiplash, Palm Springs), and Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building, 13 Reasons Why) being the iconic people reconfiguring the world 16 Candles.
15 Candles will be a half hour episode series, “follows four young Latinas starting high school as they overcome their feelings of invisibility while exploring what it means to leave childhood behind through the lens of the traditional female coming-of-age rite: the quinceañera.”
Saracho is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of one of our favorite shows –Vida and will produce under her Ojalá Productions banner, while Gomez will also executive produce under her July Moon Productions. Lugo write and executive produce 15 Candles.
With these minds behind it, we can’t wait to see the show. What are your thoughts?
