This week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star featured an unlikely duo working together: Grace and Carlos. And we just have to say: we loved it! “Prince Albert in a Can” also had some other weird stories involving Owen plus a guest appearance by Angela Bassett. Let’s review.
Grace and Carlos: The Dream Team
At the beginning of “Prince Albert in a Can,” Grace answers a 9-1-1 call where she believes a woman is in danger, and she hears a baby crying. However, it turns out this was all a prank. Carlos arrives on the scene unaware of the situation and is threatened by a man holding a knife. He tasers him since he thinks he’s the suspect.
Unfortunately, when Carlos tasers him, the man falls on his knife and doesn’t make it. As you can imagine, Grace and Carlos both feel responsible for this man’s death. We felt terrible for both of them. But then, Grace realizes that this is not their fault, and she convinces Carlos to take things into their own hands and find out who made that call.
They discover it was a gamer who made the prank call. It’s horrible that a simple phone call and prank can cause so much destruction and ruin lives. Since this guy was in LA, Athena Grant from 9-1-1 was the one who ended up arresting him. That was fun! We liked having Athena interact with Grace and Carlos even if it was just over the phone. Plus, Athena was very impressed with Carlos and couldn’t believe he wasn’t a detective.
We really enjoyed watching Carlos and Grace team up. Both Sierra McClain and Rafael Silva are wonderful, and it looked like they enjoyed working together. We would like to see more of this in the future.
Owen and Catherine: Toxic?
The other story in “Prince Albert in a Can” revolved around Catherine. Catherine’s approached by an angry citizen at a bar and after he insults her too many times, Owen punches him. Catherine’s pretty annoyed since she didn’t need Owen to defend her. She later receives flowers and thinks they’re an apology gift from Owen. Unfortunately, they aren’t. When she opens the card she’s hit by a powder that she think may be anthrax or some other biological weapon.
Listen, we’re glad that Catherine is okay. But we felt like this story just took away from the amazing Carlos and Grace story, and we could have done other things here. Like we could have focused more on Paul. How’s he doing since his surgery? How’s TK doing since his mom’s death? We were just kind of bored with this story.
That is, until the end. When Owen and Catherine get home, they find a message written on Owen’s wall in blood that says “Toxic Pig.” Oh, and there’s a dead pig in Owen’s bed. Super creepy. Now, it looks like Owen is the who this person is after. We guess we’ll find out next week who thinks Owen is “toxic.”
9-1-1: Lone Star airs Monday at 9/8c on Fox.
