9-1-1 is finally back! It feels like forever since we’ve had new episodes, and we’ve missed the 118. “Outside Looking in” was a little different than what we’re used to with a few new faces, and some of our favorites missing. Plus, Buck makes some bad decisions that will definitely come back to haunt him. Let’s review.
At the beginning of “Outside Looking In” the 118 is called to help rescue a family who’s trapped in a truck with a bomb. If the truck drops below 55 miles per hour, the bomb will explode. Luckily the 118, with some help from Athena and other firefighters, was able to rescue the whole family. It was scary though as Buck was the last person to get out of the truck. We don’t need anything to happen to Buck especially with the high turnover rate at the 118 these days.
Eddie’s New Career
If you remember in the last episode, Eddie decided to make a career change. He didn’t think being a firefighter was the best choice for him and Christopher right now. So he is currently working at the 9-1-1 call center as the LAFD Liason. At first, he seems to love it, but as the episode goes on, it’s clear he misses being a firefighter. He puts papers in to transfer back to the 118, but Bobby denies this request. Bobby realizes that Eddie’s mental health is still struggling and won’t take Eddie back until he gets help.
We feel for Eddie. We want him back on the 118, too, but Eddie desperately needs to talk to someone. And we’re glad that Bobby recognizes that. It’s refreshing to see mental health being discussed on TV, especially two men discussing it. And while Eddie was livid at Bobby for not letting him come back, we hope he realizes that Bobby really was looking out for him.
New Faces
Since Eddie has taken this new position at the call center and Chimney is still out looking for Maddie, the 118 has had a lot of new faces. We’re introduced to the new paramedic at the beginning of the episode, and Hen isn’t exactly thrilled. The new guy’s name is Jonah, but Hen doesn’t even bother to learn his name. She simply calls him “Monday.” Honestly, Jonah doesn’t seem too bad, but we get why Hen’s upset. Chimney is her best friend, and she misses him. We miss him, too. We’re hoping he comes back and reclaims his spot at the 118 soon.
The other new member of the 118 is Lucy, portrayed Arielle Kebbel (and we’re very excited to have her on the show for a while!) We’re first introduced to her when she helps rescue the family from the truck. She then celebrates with the 118 after the call, and she hits it off with Buck right away. We were excited about how fast she and Buck became friends, but then our excitement quickly went away when they kissed.
Look, we’re not saying they don’t have chemistry. We actually thought they had a LOT of chemistry. But Buck has a girlfriend who really cares about Buck. And cheating is never okay. Buck decides he has to do the right thing and be honest with Taylor, but then he chickens out.
Instead of telling Taylor about the kiss, he asks her to move in with him! To make things even more complicated, Bobby picked Lucy to be a permanent member of the 118. So this means that Buck will be seeing a lot more of her now. We have a feeling that this is going to get very complicated very quickly.
Other Thoughts
- As much as we missed the 118, we think we missed seeing Christopher the most. That kid is just adorable.
- Athena is just the best. She realized that creepy neighbor was more than just a hoarder. She knew he was behind the truck bombing and arrested him without anyone else getting hurt.
9-1-1 airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
