On the heels of the Star Trek: Discovery season 4 finale, we’ve been blessed with some updates about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Tiny Trailer, Big Questions
First up, we’ve got a tiny teaser trailer for the series. Did you miss it? Take a look and then we’ll dig a little deeper.
Tiny teaser, yes, but goodness is it pretty. And no, I’m not just talking about Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike. And truthfully, I’m left with more questions than answers. Why is Captain Pike hiding in a cabin in the mountains? Is that a SHIRTLESS Spock (Ethan Peck) looking out at Vulcan? And that Number One (Rebecca Romijn) voiceover? We’re here for it! I can’t wait to see which strange new worlds that Strange New Worlds will uncover.
James T. Kirk?!
Last week Paramount+ released an image that set the internet ablaze. Paul Wesley, of The Vampire Diaries, has been cast as James T. Kirk. Now let’s get a few things straight about this.
1). James T. Kirk will NOT be in season 1. He WILL be in season 2.
2). It’s important to note that the folks at Paramount+ have not officially clarified whether Kirk will be at the rank of Captain. However, when taking a closer look at this promotional picture, we can see that Kirk has 3 bars on his cuffs, which denote the rank of Captain. We’ll see what becomes of this in season 2 of Strange New Worlds.
Daily Star Trek News has a great take on this news with a bit of speculation as to what prompted such an early reveal about season 2. I’ll leave the speculation to others. But for now, what we do know is that we’ll get another look at a young James T. Kirk.
