The Salvatore School for the Young & Gifted is closing its doors — permanently, this time.
The CW has canceled Legacies after four seasons, ending The Vampire Diaries Universe’s 13-year franchise on the network. The Vampire Diaries kicked off the franchise in 2009, and The Originals joined the universe in 2013. After that, Legacies carried the supernatural torch with a new generation, starting in 2018.
This news comes as a major blow to the people involved with the series and its loyal fans. The latter have rallied on social media over the last few months with the hashtag #RenewLegacies to generate more noise around the series.

This dedicated and passionate fanfare paid off to some degree for another The CW series, Nancy Drew, that remained on the bubble until its eventual (and deserved) renewal. And it’s disheartening to know that, according to TV Line, The CW’s potential upcoming sale likely contributed to the cancelation of Legacies and other series on the network.
The series is a part of a more extensive tenure of a successful franchise. That supernatural universe has existed on the network since 2009. It spans over a decade and three series. It’s ending without a final, shortened season, and that’s bittersweet.

Right now, it’s more bitter than sweet, but with time, it’ll become sweet — hopefully. Because there are plenty of stories left for Legacies to tell, and it’s a terrible shame that won’t happen. But, there are still three episodes left in its run, and that’s something to celebrate.
The CW recently announced the final three episodes of Season 4 — now the last three episodes of the series — will air in June.
Legacies 4×18, “By The End Of This, You’ll Know Who You Were Meant To Be,” originally scheduled for May 12, will air on June 2. Additionally, Legacies 4×19, “This Can Only End In Blood,” initially set for May 19, will air on June 9.

The Season 4 and series finale “Do You Mind Staying With Me For Another Minute,” initially planned for May 26, will air on June 16. Basically, we have plenty of time to stock up on tissues before then.
Also in the meantime, we can come together and rewatch our favorite episodes, discuss our favorite characters and their ships, and rave about all the callbacks and references to other series. But, most of all, we can love Legacies as loudly and fiercely as we always have and always will — always and forever.
Legacies airs Thursdays at 9/8c on The CW.
