The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is coming back! There is a Daredevil series in the works at Disney+, and there are already writers attached to the project. The involvement of a writing team makes this news real for so many Marvel fans who have been clinging to the possibility of Daredevil’s return.
Variety exclusively reported that Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write and executive produce the project. It’s important to note that Marvel Studios has yet to confirm anything about the project’s existence. But, that’s not entirely off-brand for the company. And this surprising news follows multiple appearances of characters from Netflix’s Daredevil series in a few Marvel Cinematic Universe properties.
News broke in December of last year that Charlie Cox would appear in future MCU projects. Later that month, Cox appeared as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Also, later that month, Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) appeared on Hawkeye.
The return of Daredevil in his own series (again) is exciting within itself. However, it’s evident that the MCU has plans to see Matt (and other Netflix series characters) interact with MCU characters. This plan is probably helped by the MCU’s recent acceptance of the Multiverse — thanks to WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This Daredevil series will likely need to answer questions involving that Multiverse, like whether or not Matt Murdock is a Variant of the one from the 2015 Netflix series. Then again, it’s also unclear whether Cox will reprise his role in this series, but Kevin Feige’s previous statement is a good sign that it’s more likely than not to see Cox suit up again.
If the MCU brings Charlie Cox back as the same Matt Murdock/Daredevil from Daredevil, this could mean great things for other characters on that show — Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, and Frank Castle. This Daredevil show could be the key to bringing everyone back.
Marvel Studios recently announced that its Echo series about Maya Lopez is in production. Maya and Matt have ties in the comics, meaning Matt could pop up on Echo. Also, Maya could appear in this untitled Daredevil series when the time comes.
Not to mention, Hawkeye‘s ending suggests Vincent D’Onofrio will reappear on Echo — no one believes Wilson Fisk is dead, and he’s a key player in Maya’s narrative. Additionally, the upcoming series She-Hulk would be the perfect place for Jennifer Walters to meet Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones. Marvel Studios would be wise to bring Krysten Ritter back in the role because she is exceptional as the anti-hero.
All of the Netflix series started streaming on Disney+ in March, so it would be clever to bring the Defenders characters back into the mix. Hopefully, Marvel Studios doesn’t exclude the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters from this narrative opportunity because the MCU could use them.
It’s easy for Marvel fans to take this Daredevil news and run with it. It’s exhilarating to imagine all of our favorite characters who usually appear on the small screen finally being able to interact with each other with the same kind of ease Marvel Studios lets happen on the big screen.
Regardless, the possibilities are endless, and the joy knows no bounds. It’s been a good week to be a Marvel fan!
