Billy Porter is about to make his directorial debut with the Prime Video film Anything’s Possible. And thanks to the first trailer, we’re excited for the journey he’s about to take us on. Written by Ximena García Lecuona, it tells the story of Kelsa’s (Eva Reign) final year in high school. This confident young woman, who happens to be trans, is taken on a whirlwind romance when her classmate Khal (Abubakr Ali) gets a crush on her.
When he finally musters the courage to start talking to her, and eventually asking her out, he falls harder for her and she does as well in turn. Of course, the drama follows their decision to start dating. And we see bits of that in the trailer when it comes to Kelsa’s friends, family, and classmates. But even then, the trailer shows the joy of young love and the pain that comes alongside it.
In anyone else’s hands, we would be worried that Anything’s Possible will end badly, but this is Billy Porter and trust him to take this story and give us a rom-con like we haven’t seen before. So bring on the rom-com. Bring on the love. And bring the refreshing take on what it means to be part of the LGBTQ community and still finding hope and happiness in 2022.
