When fall rolls around we’re going to be seeing a lot of Harry Styles on our movie screens. His upcoming films ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and ‘My Policeman’ are releasing back-to-back in September, and October respectively. We’ve already gotten the trailer for ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and now we’re waiting for the trailer for ‘My Policeman.’
If you’re not familiar with ‘My Policeman’ the film is based on the book of the same name by Bethan Roberts. The story which takes place in Brighton in 1957, follows Tom Burgess (Styles) a policeman who is gay. Unfortunately, because he’s living in a world where it’s illegal for him to be homosexual, he has to hide who he is. Tom begins dating a schoolteacher named Marion played by Emma Corrin, while at the same time having a secret affair with a museum curator named Patrick Hazelwood played by David Dawson.
Because Tom can’t be his true self, he is forced to marry Marion. What follows is a love triangle as Tom attempts to balance his life with Marion while continuing his relationship with Patrick. The film will showcase Tom, Marion, and Patrick’s lives in the 1950s and then jump to 40 years later in the 1990s. Tom and Marion in their later years will be played by Linus Roache and Gina McKee and will showcase their strained life together that becomes more complicated when Marion agrees to take in Patrick (Rupert Everett) after he suffers a stroke.
In ‘My Policeman,’ Harry Styles will be portraying a character that is vulnerable and one he’s never played before. His performance has already been generating talk of being Oscar-worthy. That’s huge considering he hasn’t had much experience in the film world. We know that Harry is extremely capable of taking on a role like this one. Director Michael Grandage had this to say about Harry’s performance in Vanity Fair: “Because he hasn’t done much, he hasn’t developed the ability to work out tricks or even lie. He can only do it truthfully and as he knows it.”
We couldn’t agree more and we’re really looking forward to seeing Harry’s performance. Now, enough talk from us, see the first look photos for ‘My Policeman’ below.
