Just last week Olivia Wilde revealed the official trailer for her upcoming film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ while attending CinemaCon. We and a whole lot of other people who weren’t able to get this inside look were going crazy wondering when we would finally be able to see it. Boy, were we caught off guard when the trailer dropped early Monday morning? It was truly unexpected but well worth the wait.
We have watched the trailer for ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ too many times to count at this point. Sure, part of the reason is to see Florence Pugh and Harry Styles but, in all seriousness, we needed to process everything we just watched. Our heads are actually still spinning because like Alice (Pugh) we want to know what the Victory project is.
The town is idyllic, full of bright sunshiny days and vibrant colors but underneath there is something much darker. We know that Olivia Wilde said that she drew inspiration from films like ‘Inception,’ ‘The Matrix,’ and ‘The Truman Show’ but, after watching the trailer we’re thinking more like ‘The Stepford Wives’ meets ‘Bad Times At The El Royale.’
The women are essentially told by their husbands to be seen and not heard and to stay where they are. We aren’t sure what’s up with Frank (Chris Pine) who we assume is the leader of The Victory Project, which if you ask us sounds more like a cult but dude is hella creepy. He was literally watching Jack and Alice have sex. WTF?
The trailer doesn’t fully explain to us how Harry Styles’s character Jack even starts working for The Victory Project. What we do know is, it can’t be a good thing to be part of despite Franks declarations that they are going to “Change the world.” In just what way they will change the world, remains to be seen.
Also, the gaslighting by everyone in that town is strong. Alice knows something’s up, but they all just keep telling her she’s crazy. The only other woman who may be feeling like Alice seems to be is Kiki Lanes character, Margaret. Although, we could be wrong, and the other ladies suspect something as well but just don’t want to lose the lives they have for fear of the repercussions.
There are a whole lot of strange things happening throughout the trailer for ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and we love it all because who doesn’t love a good psychological thriller.
What are the men doing when they head off to work every morning? What is the ultimate goal of The Victory Project? And why is it such a secret that they can’t even talk about it at the dinner table? We can admit we are still confused after watching the trailer but that’s okay because we shouldn’t be able to predict what’s going to happen.
One thing is for sure, Don’t Worry Darling’ looks like it is going to be a wild movie with a few sexy moments between Harry and Florence that we can’t wait to see (That’s one way to make use of a dining room table #SorryNotSorry). We’re really looking forward to this movie and hope it does not disappoint.
