There is no part of us that isn’t confused by Nicholas Galitzine‘s answer to addressing the rumor that his character in The Idea of You wasn’t inspired by Harry Styles. Now, here’s the thing – we’ve had to really stop and think about what he could mean and all the variations that a person could interpret the question as.
See, we know that The Idea of You started as Harry Styles fan fiction. There is absolutely no shame in that. As a matter of fact, we’d be the first to say good on anything starting as fan fiction, progressing into a book, making its way to a movie and then so on. Some of the best authors in the world are fan fiction writers. Some of the most amazing authors started as fan fiction authors and their stories had millions upon millions of reads.
Those stories shaped us.
Those stories inspired us.
And hey, we know that the other way of looking at this question is if the way that he chose to bring his character to life is based on Harry Styles.
So we’re choosing to thing the second interpretation so that we don’t look at him like come on now Nicholas.
When he addressed the rumors, he said, “We tried to create a character that felt, you know, maybe akin to Harry in a sense that he’s a younger man dating older women. It was important to create someone who felt new and original and not a sort of shoddy impersonation of this person.”
