It’s the summertime and your shows are ending. We understand that pain. We know what it’s like to feel like all these is, well, is reruns and you’re not sure that you want to invest your time into another show.
We live in a world where things get cancelled all the time and you can never be sure what is going to happen. So, we’re all more choosy about how we spend our time and what we invest in.
And we’re suggesting that you invest your time in Becoming Elizabeth, the upcoming Tudor drama from Starz.
We know, we know, a period drama? Well if we’re being honest, we can all agree that if anyone knows how to do a period drama right, it’s going to be Starz. They’ve had success with such shows as The White Queen, The Spanish Princess, and the one that we all know – Outlander (still a period drama in our opinion).
But why should you watch Becoming Elizabeth? We’re glad you asked. Let us break it down for you.

THE SETTING
A lot of the series was filmed in Cardiff Castle. The castle is a, “medieval castle and Victorian Gothic revival mansion located in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd-century Roman fort.”
The way the show is shot transports you. It makes you feels as you are there. Everything from the lighting to the set design, to the angles are beautiful.
THE HISTORY
We love history. After all, history has a way of repeating itself so knowing as much as you can about history is absolutely of the utmost importance.
While we know a lot about history, we’re the first to admit that we always have something to learn. And when it comes to Elizabeth I, we’ve seen a lot of television shows and movies that left us feeling like we knew everything.
But the thing is, we’d never thought about when she was young and all of the people that entered her life. The show made us order books, read websites, and do everything we could to learn about Elizabeth and her brother and sister. Not to mention her stepmother, Thomas Seymour, and Robert Dudley. Our desk looks like we’ve gone back to school to find out everything we can.
They’ve managed to make us feel like we’re walking through history and watching it come alive in front of us, which has made us want to learn more.

THE COSTUMES
No, we’re not rushing out to try on corsets here, but we’re looking at this wardrobe and thinking WOW this is beautiful! Every detail is meticulous and breathtaking.
After this pandemic, our wardrobe consists of leisure wear and we’re not complaining about that, cause comfort. But we may have bought some great headbands and we’re on the hunt for some amazing dresses to wear.
Dressing up and dressing for each day used to be different. There was a lot that went into it. And seeing these costumes reminded us of that, but also made us see the beauty in fashion through out time.
THE CAST
What a cast! Seriously. What a cast.
The truth is with any show, writing is a big part of it, but a cast (in our opinion) is also very important (if not more).
Becoming Elizabeth stars Alicia von Rittberg as Elizabeth I; Romola Garai as Mary; Oliver Zetterstrom as Edward; Jessica Raine as Catherine Parr; Tom Cullen as Thomas Seymour; John Heffernan as Duke Somerset; Jamie Parker as John Dudley; Jamie Blackley as Robert Dudley; and Bella Ramsey as Jane Grey.
An amazing cast is an understatement.

ALICIA VON RITTBERG
Alicia von Rittberg is a star and this is her time to shine. She captivates the screen and embodies Elizabeth. When you see her on the screen you forget that you’re watching someone play Elizabeth. The actress is a star.
And we have a feeling we’ll be seeing her around, a lot more. this is just the beginning of her journey.
We feel it and we’re willing to bet on it.
Becoming Elizabeth premieres on Starz, June 12th.
