Fans of K-Pop, Pitch Perfect alum Rebel Wilson, and Riverdale actor Charles Melton have reason to be excited. The actors have signed on to an upcoming adventure comedy, K-Pop: Lost in America. Additionally, it’s been reported that K-Pop idol Cha Eun-woo (True Beauty) of Astro is in talks to star in the film.
Not much else is known about the project, other than the following synopsis:
The film follows a breaking K-pop group that finds themselves mistakenly stranded in Waco, Texas, just days before their American debut at Madison Square Garden,” reads the synopsis. “Left with no phones, no money, and no transportation, the group must overcome their differences and a host of crazy obstacles to make it to New York City. Along the way, they learn to love Texas, and Texas learns to love them back.
Fish-out-of-water stories are usually popular. Just look at classics like My Cousin Vinny or Get Him to the Greek This one is clearly hoping to capitalize on the popularity of K-Pop. And Wilson’s penchant for slightly off-color physical comedy might give a sense of the tone of the film. But other than bringing the laughs, what role will she have in the film? Will the Australian-born actress assume a Texan accent to play the counterpoint to the K-Pop band? Will she have the opportunity to show off some of the vocal range fans remember well from the Pitch Perfect films? It’s too soon to tell.
Production on K-Pop: Lost in America is expected to begin this fall.
