The whole ‘this is for kids but is it genre’ is kinda amazing, because there are true gems in there and often, shows that are aimed at kids have a lot of depth that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. This is true of animation these days, too. So we don’t dismiss anything as “just for a young audience,” or we might miss out on the next Julie and the Phantoms. Which means we’re paying attention to Surfside Girls.
Sure, it looks kinda, well …for kids. But it also looks fun, and like it’s going to focus on friendship, which we’re really here for. There’s a lot of deep, serious and even dark TV out there. We all need a break every once in a while.
Here’s the trailer for Surfside Girls:
Sam and Jade are on the hunt to find hidden treasure in the town of Surfside – but they may have to stop trouble before it washes ashore. Based on the best-selling graphic novel series by Kim Dwinell, Surfside Girls premieres August 19 on Apple TV+.
