She was watched by all, but seen by none. Marilyn Monroe is an icon, but we also believe that Norma Jean is too. Yes, they are the same person physically, but definitely that’s where it stops.
The upcoming movie, Blonde, examines the life on Marilyn Monroe and the life of Norma Jean. Ana de Armas portrays Marilyn in the movie, which is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, and is a fictionalized chronicle of the life of Marilyn Monroe.
The official synopsis, “Based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her volatile childhood as Norma Jean, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves.”
The movie was officially been rated NC-17 for “some sexual content.” This is Netflix’s first original movie (not one that they’ve hosted) to receive this rating and we respect it.
A source familiar with the movie said that the movie, “has some adult, mature content and that the film’s writer and director Andrew Dominik did not want to compromise some of the more intense elements of the iconic actress’ life.”
Blonde stars Ana de Armas, Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Caspar Phillipson, Evan Williams, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, Lily Fisher, Sara Paxton, David Warshofsky, Xavier Samuel, Michael Masini, Spencer Garrett, Chris Lemmon, Rebecca Wisocky, Scoot McNairy, Dan Butler, Garret Dillahunt, Lucy Devito, and Ned Bellamy.
The movie will be released globally on Netflix September 23rd.
