Chesapeake Shores is back for its sixth and final season and as we prepare to say goodbye to the O’Brien family, there are some burning questions that need answering before they go.
The Hallmark drama, which first started airing in 2016 stars Meghan Ory, Treat Williams, Barbara Niven, Laci J. Mailey, Emilie Ullerup, Brendan Penny, and Andrew Francis as Abby, Mick, Megan, Jess, Bree, Kevin and Connor O’Brien. The show has developed massively since its first season when Abby O’Brien Winters moved back to her hometown of Chesapeake Shores on the back of her divorce and ever-demanding career. We’ve seen romantic and familial relationship struggles, personal struggles and departing actors (we miss you Jesse Metcalfe). We’ve pretty much seen it all, but that’s not to say last season didn’t leave us without a huge cliffhanger. So let’s get into the questions Chesapeake Shores needs to answer before it say their final goodbye.
Who did Abby Call? – Evan or Jay

Season 5 saw the departure of Abby’s romantic interest for the past five seasons, Trace Riley, who was played by Jesse Metcalfe. But the show didn’t give viewers too much time to miss Trace as they bought in two new potential love interests for Abby, in the form of billionaire Evan and school teacher Jay. At the end of the season, both Evan and Jay admitted they had feelings for Abby, with Evan actually asking Abby on a date. After Abby confessed to her sister that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be with either of them, she decided to one of them a voicemail saying, “I have been thinking about you, and I think maybe we should give this a try.” There was no indication of which one of her potential love interests she was calling, but it’s safe to say this needs to be cleared up asap!
Does Connor Survive?

While Abby’s voicemail is a big moment in the season finale, the final moments are actually spent showing Connor having a heart attack. With Andrew Francis listed as one of the actors returning for the final season, the chances of Connor dying are very slim. He could come back as a ghost or in flashbacks, but let’s be honest, Chesapeake Shores doesn’t really seem like that kind of show. Also, his romance with paralegal Margaret is definitely on the up and up after they shared that steamy kiss right before his heart attack, so it would massively suck to see Connor die. But it will be interesting to see how the show deals with Connor’s heart attack and (fingers crossed) recovery.
Where does Mick and Megan’s relationship stand?

A large part of Chesapeake Shores is around Megan leaving when the kids were well kids. While that has mostly been resolved and Mick and Megan have got back together. They faced new struggles in the last season when Megan’s ex Carter showed up offering her a dream job in Los Angeles. It wasn’t just a sore sport because it was Megan’s ex offering the job but also because Mick and Megan planned to travel the world together. However, despite Megan coming up with a compromise – she works for a year and then goes travelling with Mick – Mick’s jealousy and past trauma of Megan leaving comes back to haunt them. Mick ends up admitting he doesn’t know if he can trust her to come back.
Where is David’s dad, and will the Peck’s legal troubles affect the inn?

After Jess’s less than warm welcome from the Peck’s, it was kind of expected that wouldn’t be the last we’d see of them. But we never thought the season 5 finale would reveal that David’s father would have cleaned out the Peck’s entire finances, including David’s trust fund and left the country. With the feds now after David’s dad and David having no money, it will be interesting to see how Jess and David deal with the situation. But also if/how it will affect the inn’s reputation and financially, as David has helped Jess with the inn’s cost before.
What’s next for Bree and Luke’s relationship?

Bree may have finally found her guy in Luke. He may be on parole but last season showed how Luke had turned his life around and really cared for Abby. Even if he did almost get sent back to prison because of a positive drug test. It will be interesting to see what curveballs the show throws their way and how the O’Brien family will react to their relationship.
How are Sarah and Kevin after Sarah’s miscarriage?

Kevin and his wife Sarah had a rough time last season. They discovered that Sarah had endometriosis, they then found out she was pregnant and then sadly lost their baby. Viewers saw the couple working through their grief at the end of season five but grief is a journey, and we could see the couple still working through things in season six. Will the couple try for another baby, adopt or just take some time out and see where life takes them?
Will Trace return?

Trace’s exit was still looming over the show in season five, and that was understandable as it was still very fresh. In an interview with ET Jesse Metcalfe indicated his reasons for leaving were to try and get back onto critically acclaimed cable tv shows again. He had previously starred in Desperate Housewives. However in the same interview he indicated that he wouldn’t say no to a return: “I certainly haven’t shut it. I would definitely be open to that, given that the show was continuing to perform seasons down the line.” The show did end pretty quickly after he left, but that probably had more to do with the pandemic than his exit. But if he did return it would make an excellent ending for the show.
Chesapeake Shores returns on August 14.
What is the initial reason Megan leaves the family when Abby is 17. You never answer that? Why?
