If the embarrassing, sudden, and unfair cancellation of the Batgirl movie made anything clear, it’s that Warner Bros. studios are pursuing a new strategy with their newly created Warner Bros. Discovery brand. The new strategy consists, broadly speaking, of focusing on films that are going to be a success in theaters and for that it is better to play it safe.
So, according to Puck, Ryan Gosling has agreed to star with Margot Robbie in the prequel to the Ocean’s movies, one of Warners’ biggest franchises outside of DC and Harry Potter. If deals close, the stars will reunite with filmmaker Jay Roach, whom De Luca worked with way back on Austin Powers at New Line.
The budget will reportedly be much larger than all previous Ocean’s movies, including the one starring Sandra Bullock, and at the same time, the studio could start a new franchise or create a show based on the film. In any case, it seems that this prequel will feature much less than The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling’s last film on Netflix, which we assume is a victory for Warner Bros. Discovery.
