Robinne Lee’s book The Idea of You is one of our absolute favorites. As I’ve mentioned before, when I read it in 2017 it left me with the longest book hangover of my life. I recently did a re-read for the five-year anniversary in June and I still had those same feels.
Back in 2018 we first heard news that Lees book was set to be adapted for the big screen and we were thrilled. Naturally, the biggest question was who would be cast to play our Solène Marchand and Hayes Campbell. Previously, we reported that Anne Hathaway had been cast in the role of Solène which has actually been changed to the name Sophie for this adaptation.
Other than the casting of Solène (Sophie), Hayes was truly kept tightly under wraps. I’ll be honest, while we were waiting to find out who would play the lead singer of the popular boy band August Moon, I was a little nervous. My reason for this is because there have been a lot of changes to this adaptation as of late.
With those changes to this adaptation, there were also rumors floating around that whoever was cast to play Hayes might not be British. Allow us to put those fears to rest because we hit the jackpot. Nicholas Galitzine (who is a British actor), star of the popular Netflix film Purple Hearts has been cast to play Hayes Campbell and we couldn’t be happier.

We adore Galitzine and he’s just the cutest. He’s a talented young actor so we know he will be able to nail Hayes’s intensity and his vulnerability. Also, an even bigger plus, he’s a singer. We would definitely say this is a win with the casting and we cannot wait to see what he does to bring the character to life onscreen. Seriously, Hayes is one of my favorite book boyfriends, so I have very high hopes.
The Idea of You which will be directed by Michael Showalter is set to begin production in October and we’re going to be following all the things. While the film adaptation of The Idea of You is going to be a bit different, we highly recommend grabbing a copy of Lees book so you can fall in love with this story just like we did.
