The month of October, AKA “Spooky Season,” is starting on the right note with the upcoming release of Amazon MGM’s film adaptation of Verity based on the book by Colleen Hoover. If you like psychological thrillers about being in an isolated, snowy yet fancy locale in an even fancier house, Verity is the film for you. If you like stories about authors doing writer things, this film is for you.
As someone who is not an author, I always find myself excited and drawn to stories about authors. I think that may be more so the reader in me. Because, as readers, we don’t get to see the things authors go through behind the scenes. All we know is when a book is coming out, and we happily go out and buy it. And who is better at telling a story about an author than, well, an author.
In Verity, Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer who is on the brink of financial ruin. When the opportunity of a lifetime presents itself, she is more than willing to sign on. Lowen’s task is to finish the remaining books in a successful series written by bestselling author Verity Crawford. Verity, who suffered a terrible accident, can no longer finish the books herself. Her husband, Jeremy, believes Lowen is the best person for the job. But as most psychological stories go, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Starring in Verity are Dakota Johnson, who plays Lowen, Anne Hathaway as Verity, and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy. Listen, we’ve been on board for this film adaptation since the day the cast was announced. These three are some of our favorites, and we know it’s going to be a treat watching them in a film like this.
We’ve already watched the trailer more times than we can say. Maybe it’s because of that creepy rendition of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.” Either way, we can’t wait for this because we know we’re in for a very wild ride.
