Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! confirming that Velma Dinkley is a lesbian has conservative homophobes clutching their pearls. While they’re doing that, they’re clutching their pearls and shouting “woke.” And their mental gymnastics don’t end there. They also claim that they’re just worried about “the children.” Sure, Jan.
What they fail to understand is 1) they are absolutely homophobes. And 2) children (turn away if your sensibilities get a little shaken up at the use of foul language) don’t give a shit if you’re gay, lesbian, bisexual, non-binary, trans, etc. They have other things to worry about. Like their adolescence. Or hanging with their friends. Let’s not forget the wave of new feelings that hit you when your hormones throw you for a loop.
The kid of 2022 doesn’t care that Velma is a lesbian in Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!. But do you know who does care? Their homophobic parents. They have no problem seeing heterosexual relationships in kids’ shows. Meanwhile, they preach how we shouldn’t force relationships and shit on young and impressionable minds. It’s not like kids learn about what is right and wrong in this world from their parents. (That was sarcasm, by the way.)
But back to Velma, lesbians, and being “woke.”
It’s not about protecting “the children.” Neither is it about making sure that they aren’t preached about the ACTUAL lives of other children.. It’s about creating a divide in our society that says, “This is wrong. You are wrong. And I’m going to make sure the next generation sees that.” Homophobic conservatives are scared of us, queer folx. Because we’re the future that could force them to face that LGBTQ people exist and are thriving in 2022.
Instead, these homophobes scream “woke.” Then they bemoan the liberal agenda instead of seeing that equal opportunities to be seen are happening here. And just because the playing field is being evened out, it doesn’t mean that you are being erased. It means that there are more players on the field with different experiences and skills that deserve to be seen, explored, and given the time of day to make for more complex storytelling.
(Yes, I made sports-like references. Please clap.)
If anything, Velma is making kids (and those that watched Scooby-Doo as a kid) feel like they are worthy to be part of one of the biggest shows in the world. And if they can be part of this, what else can they take part in? That matters and makes people feel seen. And we’re talking about all children and not those who are “allowed” to see the “norm” of what the world is like out there. Fuck that. We want everyone to see themselves in the content they consume.
So, go off, homophobic conservative garbage. Keep showing everyone the truth of how homophobic you are. Oh, and don’t forget the jealousy that pours out of your very soul when you see the LGBTQ+ community living their best like and accepting Velma from Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! as the sapphic icon we’ve always known her to be. Because hate like this reflects right back into your heart and shows the world who you truly are inside.

I thought velma and shaggy were a thing?
Why is this even a story? Velma has always been into girls since OG Scooby-Doo came out in the 70s? Is this generation really this stupid and ignorant? Like holy hell 🤣🤣🤣
Apparently everyone but the author of this article has known about Velma being gay since 1970. . That means you are getting triggered by something the rest of the population has known and accepted for over half a century. Maybe the reason people aren’t enjoying this new show is it’s a pile of hot garbage.
