The Justice Society of America’s latest adventure will be their last, as The CW announced that Stargirl would end with Season 3. The show premiered in 2020.
The 13-episode season, currently airing on the network, will double as its final season. The news isn’t surprising as The CW continues to cancel and end other series. Most recently, the network announced that Nancy Drew would end with its upcoming fourth season.
Other TV shows, like Batwoman and Legacies, were canceled earlier this year. The network’s remaining series include The Flash and Riverdale, which like Nancy Drew, will air final seasons in the 2022/2023 programming slate.

TV Line notes, “Earlier this month, the Nexstar group took control of The CW, resulting in the exit of longtime CEO Mark Pedowitz and many other changes as the network steers toward targeting an older audience.”
Meanwhile, “Deadline understands the team behind DC’s Stargirl, like Nancy Drew, was given an early indication that this might be the final season and to write an ending that would reflect that. The decision is thought to have been made by Nexstar executives.”
Deadline also shared a statement from Geoff Johns, Stargirl‘s creator, about the cancellation.

“Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons. With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of Stargirl yet, with complete creative closure.”
“The cast and crew are extraordinary, and I’d like to thank them for helping me bring this series to life. Brec embodied Courtney in every way possible — with grace, strength, and humor — exceeding my wildest expectations,” he continued.
“I am grateful to WBTV and The CW for giving us a home to tell this story and to honor my beloved late sister, and I’m beyond thankful to the press and fans who have always championed us for three amazing seasons. Most series never get this far. We couldn’t be more proud of our show and the fan community it’s built,” he concluded.

Brec Bassinger, who has played the titular character since its debut, also released a statement, “Getting to play Stargirl and be a part of the DC Universe has been the greatest honor, and I am so grateful for every moment of it.”
“I would like to thank our fearless leader Geoff Johns, along with WBTV, The CW, the cast and crew of Stargirl, and of course, the fans. Thank you. This show will forever live in my heart,” she added.
Now Stargirl Season 3 is tasked with wrapping up a series of questions. Who killed the Gambler? Will Courtney and Cameron be able to make it work? Will Pat and Mike ever have a conversation that lasts longer than a few sentences? Who is Rick living with? And, ultimately, can good win in the end?
