Mean Girls is one of those iconic and timeless movies that no matter how many years go by, we still enjoy just like the first day. Lindsay Lohan was the lead in the film and the movie became a hit. After its musical theater adaptation, a new Mean Girls-related project begins to take shape. Do you want to know more? Keep reading!
Here we go!
We won’t take any longer to reveal the mystery: according to Deadline, a new Mean Girls movie is in the works! The film is being adapted by Paramount Pictures for Paramount+. While we don’t know too many details about the project yet, we already know the main cast!
Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp – we love her in Sex Lives of College Girls and she is the perfect Regina in the Mean Girls Broadway musical, which it was her debut -, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana is one of Disney‘s best movies. Period), and Jaquel Spivey will play Cady, Regina, Janis, and Damian, respectively.
Let’s be honest, we grew up with Lindsay Lohan as Cady, Rachel McAdams as Regina George, and Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith, so it’s hard to see other actresses in their roles. With that being said, we’re sure the new cast will put their own spin on the characters we grew up with and will win our hearts. We have zero doubts.
As for the team behind the cameras, Tina Fey is back in charge of producing a new Mean Girls project, this time along with Lorne Michaels. Fey will also be in charge of writing the script while Arturo Pérez and Samantha Jayne take command of the direction.
The movie will be based not on its predecessor, but on the musical theater of Mean Girls so we can expect some changes from the original movie, making it different but, at the same time, perfect to honor the original while carving its own path.
Mean Girls’ new movie will be available soon on Paramount+.
